Like everyone I'd disgusted by the loss and especially the performance. But I think we have to be realistic. No team goes back to back because to win a premiership every little think needs to go right, form, injuries, luck. Last year it did, last year we win that game because Maloney's field goal attempt doesn't hit the post. We won games last year when we played terrible. With the loss of Barba and Ennis it was impossible to go back to back.
It's disappointing not to finish in the top 4, but the reality is 4th is no better than 5th this year. Yes people will argue the whole second bite, however finishing 4th would guarantee the Sharks are playing in the second week of the finals, not having a week off, there's not a chance we could beat Melbourne in Melbourne at the moment. So if we finish 5th and it's a big if, it is no different, we still play in week 2. What it does mean is we would be unlikely to face Melbourne until a GF if we do find form and could well play 3 finals games in Sydney given the Roosters will now finish second.
But it doesn't matter anyway, we are cannon fodder for most of the finals teams, the rest of the league has caught up with us. The most disappointing this is firstly becoming a premier that quickly fades away and doesn't capitalise on being a top club and spending a few years competing. We are doing a Souths of 2015 with the injuries that battered them and gee look at them now, we have to avoid following their path. But the most disappointing thing is our failure to compete in front of our home fans, I can't believe most games I've been to this year I've had no confidence of a win, despite being premier and the lack of confidence has been justified as we've lost half of our games at home. That is so unfair on the fans or as Maloney would say the 'accessories'.
At least we'll go into 2018 without expectations.
