In your head, rent free
football in europe is bigger than rugby league will ever be and there are games and even leagues that have to be played in empty stadiums

sport survives without fans, it doesnt survive without the corporate dollar behind it. that is a fact

Mate that's because people are willing to watch it, they are fans. It's far easier and cheaper to watch from home these days.

Some of those blokes are best mates. Would you ignore your mates cause you were supposed to be cranky? The players do give a ****. Maybe sharing a quiet laugh for 5 minutes is a way to turn their brain off before they get blasted by the coach, the media and the fans.

Cut them some slack

Doesnt bother me. We are fans. We choose to spend our money on going to games and fan gear. Its not our livelihood. Its not something that really matters is the scheme of life. Seriously, the Sharks lose whats the worst outcome for you? Some virgin at work gives you a bit of lip for 2 minutes at work on monday? Who ****in cares.

Fans pay for the game because they watch it. It doesn't matter where, live or on tv. Foxtel paid overs for the rights with a view of eventually owning all sport in this country, and then making a lot of money. They're losing now, to hopefully gain total control later.

Broadcasters and corporates "pay for the game", but only because people watch it. The fans. Surely this is pretty simple. And I've worked for every tv network in the country so I'm not ignorant to how they work.

Yep.

Danny. That's gold. Being a Lismore boy he was one of my favourite all time sharks.

That one is Slide's, can't take credit for that.

channel 2, 7 and 9 broad casted the game in the old days when there were **** all fans attending

the myth that "fans pay wages" is bull****
All of the salary cap money is paid for by broadcasting money (advertising and subscriptions). Money from memberships etc are used for the day to day running of the club. The fans really do pay their wages. The broadcasters don't do it out of charity.

Having said that, players should be sportsmanlike and the only time they should be cracking the grumps is when the season is on the line.

It goes both ways. Whether it was people at games or people at home watchibg the game relies on fans to boost the value of the product thats on offer. If tv ratings were down they dont offer as big. Obviously we want more money in the game but its a shame more isnt done to lure people out to games. Double headers, better scheduling of games to ensure all teams get a share of time slots that best suit attendance like a sunday arvo or saturday evening. Its requires balance. You get a better view of the game sitting at home, see every partnof the game in clear view but its not the same.

You could be right, Segy might just get a token 15-20 mins which I'm sure he can handle.

With current technology Rugby League is possibly the best suited game for television. Most of the action happens within range of one shot.

AFL, for example, is much more suited to watching at the footy ground because of all of the off the ball stuff.

Interesting that someone mentioned a player wearing a cam in the Super League last round. You'd think at some stage down the track the whole virtual reality experience will be an option.

I like that players shake hands and chat, it's a epic take no prisoners war that last 80 minutes.. not life n death... I tell my kids what a great level of sportsmanship it shows.. play hard tough and walk off as mates... the bloody provan summons nrl trophy depicts that..

The view is 1 thing. The atmosphere is another. Imo id rather see the game in less detail and be there, than just watch at home. Can always watch the replay. Being part of it is most the fun. I paid $250 per seat for gf tix. Had a decent view of the field as a whole but no up close action. Do have screens tho. Im sure fans at home had the time of their lives too but there would have been absolutely no substitute for being there amongst 60 odd thousand sharks fans going mental when ricky made that tackle.
