I didn't see much of the Dragons this year but Rein on a cheap contract to start with Brown off the bench wouldn't be horrendous. Rein in the past has been a solid defensive no frills hooker, this wouldn't be a massive issue for us IMO.

There must have been some sort of off field or intra Club shenanigans for Vaughan not to be playing first grade. He's closer to a City/Country rep player than he is to a run of the mill reserve grader. I expect that he would push Prior for a starting spot here unless Prior can maintain his current superhuman efforts.

Sims is talented too and still developing. Even if we had to wait a year he could be a good option to replace Gal at lock.

Williams offers size and speed. IMO the way the game is currently you need at least one 'big ship' on the field at all times - some Clubs have two or three - but that guy also has to be able to move because the game is quick. A big winger like Oates or Radradra offers similar momentum. At the moment we've got one. I'd Play Williams as a bench middle forward in much the way Tupou played the role - high impact, medium minutes (approx 30) and with some plays built around his ability to ballplay. Hopefully it's a one year + one year in our favour deal.

Starling is a quality signing because he's dirt cheap but won't let his teammates down. He's also unusually mobile for a reserve grader his size.

I have my doubts about Cook but we could really use someone who has actually started NRL games at 9. I favour Nu to be our main man in 2017 though (and possibly beyond). I think his talent level is in the same area to Bird and Holmes - elite - but he hasn't had the chance to show it yet. I'm not worried about him not playing 9 at reserve grade level much. He's still had a lot of responsibility as the 7 and its not all that unusual for good hookers to play halfback when they drop down. Example: Korisau at Souths/Manly.

Would like to see us pick up a young backrower as well to develop. Leilua would be excellent. Also a depth half or two.

I can handle trex on a decent contract but starling better be on nothing more then a nsw cup contract replacing roqica

T Rex / williams is a Massive unit....... has not put in for years he has a low work rate with little or no intensity , He does not run hard and straight ( Maybe under Des instructions but I doubt it) Hoping Ennis may have had something to do with his coming to us. If so he can see something in him that we don't. It was Ennis that kept backing in Benny the Babba when he was on the nose, the results speak for themselves.

Article posted today about Tautamolo saying he was very close to signing with Sharks after talking to Gal during the NrL Aa stars, but decided on Cows.

Now that would be a premiership side.

Starling is a perfect signing because he is better than Rogica or JSL. He's no risk in first grade, still young enough to improve, and able to to provide better than average injury or form backup.

Your opinion is respected CHOGM , however in regards to Starling , you must see something that I am missing.

Apparantly Steve Price does not rate Rein, and he would know him pretty well.

I wouldn't be surprised if he is actually cheaper than JSL. He'll fill a hole in the roster. We still need a very good bookend to compliment though.

Rein defends alright, but man he can't pass without taking 3 steps and makes bad judgements (Like if we wanted that we'd may as well go Lichaa, at least he's a very good defender). I'd rather we recruit a Pom tbh. Or get that dude from NSW Cup Wyong side who always tops the tackles and try assists stats.

That said if we end up signing him he's welcome to prove us wrong. He's always been a guy to have a go from what I've seen.

SHARKS GO BIG FOR COOK

Cronulla aren’t messing around in their bid to find a quality replacement for Mick Ennis by throwing a two-year deal worth $600,000 at South Sydney hooker Damien Cook.

The offer comes as NSW Origin No.9 Robbie Farah rejected an offer from the Sharks in order to sign with the Rabbitohs.

Having missed out on North Queensland rake Rory Kostjasyn last week, the Sharks have upped the ante on the eve of their preliminary final against the Cowboys on Friday.

Stuck behind Farah in Redfern next season, Cook requested a release from his contract over the weekend.

Aside from playing second fiddle to Farah, Cook has 400,000 reasons to want out of his deal with the Rabbitohs.

The former Bulldog is on a contract worth $200,000 next season and has an opportunity to secure his future, just like former teammate Cameron McInnes has done by joining St George Illawarra.

The Rabbitohs are yet to respond to Cook’s request.

Their reluctance to release Cook should come as no surprise, with the 25-year-old Sutherland product finding form to finish the season.
