A CRONULLA Sharks cheerleader has been hailed a hero by the family of a woman who was bashed on a train last month.
Tiffany De Luca, 22, arrived at Cronulla railway station at 8.30pm on Sunday, September 27, to find six females bashing an off-duty police officer who was on the train.
"I got to the station [and] there were six ... girls punching a woman and kicking her,'' she said.
Ms De Luca recognised the victim as a friend of hers. Despite her police training she had been overwhelmed and needed help.
"It was six on one and it was pretty rough,'' she said.
"I shoved one of the girls aside and got [my friend] off the train. She was nearly unconscious.''
After leaving the railway station, Ms De Luca phoned her friend's brother to get a lift to Sutherland Hospital.
"I rushed down and got her and took her to hospital, it was just terrible,'' the brother said.
Police investigating the incident are looking for six females of Pacific Islander appearance, 16-18.
The brother said he was thankful Ms De Luca had rescued his sister, who was left with two black eyes and bruising to her upper body.
"She could have been left unconscious on the train,'' the brother said.
"Tiffany is the real hero.''
