Anderson expected to play
September 09, 2008

CRONULLA officials are confident a knee injury will not stop backrower Fraser Anderson from playing in the qualifying final against Canberra at Toyota Stadium.

Anderson picked up a strain in the Shark's win over North Queensland and sat out much of the team’s training session with his left knee sporting an ice pack.

Sharks medical staff say the New Zealand-born forward is in no doubt to take on the Raiders and he is expected to take part in full training later in the week.

Meanwhile, the prospect of weekend showers did not stop the Sharks faithful from queuing up for tickets at the club's home ground with more than 100 fans waiting in line by the time seats went on sale to the general public.

The clash with the Raiders will be the first finals game played at Toyota Stadium since 2001 when the Sharks hosted Brisbane.

Cronulla officials are confident a knee injury will not stop backrower Fraser Anderson from playing in Saturday night’s qualifying final against Canberra at Toyota Stadium.

Anderson picked up a strain in last weekend's win over North Queensland and sat out much of this morning's training session with his left knee sporting an ice pack.

Sharks medical staff say the New Zealand-born forward is in no doubt to take on the Raiders and he is expected to take part in full training later this week.

Meanwhile, the prospect of weekend showers did not stop the Sharks faithful from queuing up for tickets at the club's home ground this morning with more than 100 fans waiting in line by the time seats went on sale to the general public at 9am.

I waited outside the Ticketek and got in at 9 on the dot. I could only get seats in the western concourse (4 seats). But at least we got assigned seating. I was just on the ticketek website and only singles or General Admission left now. Also looks like all the away areas are sold out.

The queue at the ticketing office on Sunday morning makes it look like a sellout is on the cards...

well apparently the raiders are appealing to the NRL for salary cap help cause they only have 16 of their 25 players available. Im kinda hopin the sharks wont miss next week as i will be in Sydney and would love to go to the game.

I havent been to a game at Shark Park for two years. I am so so so overjoyed that its a semi I am going to. Its taken most of my savings (am a lowly student) to get there from Brisbane, but hey, its worth it!

Kimmorley makes case for defence

Cronulla halfback Brett Kimmorley is confident his side's watertight defence will cancel out the Raiders' formidable attack when the teams clash at Toyota Stadium on Saturday night.

The Raiders amassed an impressive 640 points from their 24 regular-season appearances with only the Sea Eagles (645) outscoring them, while the Sharks posted the lowest return of the top-eight sides with 451.

But the veteran No.7 has backed his team-mates to stifle the in-form Green Machine with a trademark defensive effort.

"It's about turning up (with the right attitude)," Kimmorley said.

"I'd like to hope our defence means that they don't score 30 or 40 (points)."

"Our defence is (a source) of confidence for us and hopefully if we defend really well, well maybe we only need to score three or four tries to win."

While desperate to shut down the rampant Raiders in Saturday's qualifying final, Kimmorley admits he is a fan of their fearless approach.

"I've enjoyed watching them play," he said of Neil Henry's men.

"They play a good style of footy so it's going to be tough for us and they will know if they shut us down in defence they might be able to score more tries than us."

Kimmorley is confident the Sharks have ironed out their own attacking deficiencies in time for the playoffs.

"It's a good test but I think our attack's come good the last few weeks, we probably were not a great attacking side there for a while but I think over the last month when we've had to prepare for the semis and flick a switch we sort of have," he said.

Asked if his side is capable of keeping pace with the Raiders attacking prowess, Kimmorley replied: "I don't know if we can match it but it's about making sure we take our chances and execute really well."

"And I think that's where our strengths are that over the last month we've scored of the plays we should have scored off, we haven't run the wrong lines or dropped a bad pass."

The 31-year-old conceded shutting down form playmaker Terry Campese would go along way to securing victory, but warned the Raiders are more than a one-man show.

"Certainly one of their strengths is the fact that he (Campese) is a great runner of the football and I suppose he's a bit old-school, he's a big five-eighth so he's going to be very dangerous," Kimmorley said.

"A lot of guys down there are playing good footy for them ... it's (going to be) a great game."

Welcome to Emu Plains, please be sure to visit our
having a tossload of fast agile blokes running around is all well and good but it wont do them much good when they cant get out of their 40 because of our kick chase and punishing defense
and lets see those fast agile blokes (tongue not included) effectively stop gallen, douglas, anderson, snowden and ross and then you have nutley who is easy to stop but it looks like it hurts everytime (when we first signed nutley this season it was usually him coming out worse from his suicide battering ram runs but as the season has progressed thats been reversing a bit, he used to end up getting dominated in tackles a fair bit but not so much lately)

dont need to worry about him, taulapapa can easily take care of him with a side on,bone jarring tackle..:nodlaugh

i also hear that campese has a dodgy hamstring, target him all game like gallen did to JT..we win
