Stu Mills was a star in defense. Usually struggles, but came up big time in defense against one of the best centres in the toyota cup in Tautau Moga.

I think it was more the numbers we kept on Moga that kept him quiet, that and I think our line speed was excellent. Really solid stuff.

Some players I was impressed with were

Pickerd - great player. safe, fast and elusive. Where does he play if he makes firsts ?
Peachey - very solid defensively along with his usual attacking skill. Look forward to him making the step up.
Licha - Very good off the bench, I like this kid.
Alcock - This guy is a weapon, such power in his runs and great smothering tackles.
Massima - Looked like he was injured but he was having a great game.

Frizzel was abit quiet but still quality.
Chad was solid but not like a halfback with 11 first grade games.

You didn't mention Mills - he was in everything...

I know I didn't. I dont think he was that good tbh. Made a few good ruck runs but didnt really threaten Moga defensively. Long way from first grade centre, I'd put him on the wing though.

Aye. I only got to watch the last half hour because of work, but my old man said Mills was playing well especially in defence; and that says a lot when you're marking up against a player like Moga. I know he was pretty shaky in defence for a while there this season, but it's great to see hard work and determination pay off!

By the way, that's a mean fend he's got...

Watching the NYC boys play makes me very excited for the next couple years.

thats why the u20's concept is brilliant.. u can literally see where the first grade squad will be in years to come.. IF.. and its a big if, the club can keep them all together.. highly unlikely

post note: i would freakin hate to see peachey sign anywhere else, just his name screams sharky for life (if the club survives)

I'd like for the U20s to become U21s or something just so the gap between firsts and NYC isn't so great becuause its clear they're not going to make the NSW Cup the main feeder comp to firsts.

nsw cup isnt the main feeder comp to firsts, its a mix of nswcup, qldcup (which im sorry to say is way better) and id gather some sort of nz feeder grade! and where else are the post 21 yr old fringe/depth players going to play every week?

The NYC is great and doesn't need fixing. I hate that idiots like Phil Gould always rag on it. Tonight really proved just how good a league it is.

completely agree, it was never supposed to be nrl quality football, it is designed to set younge players up to playing 26 straight weeks and to give the fans more access to the juniors.. success & success

Argh, I hate that argument.

There are going to be 12 NSW Cup teams next year and 12 QLD Cup teams.

That means there are 24 depth teams.

If the NSW Cup and QLD cup were removed so every team had a national reserve grade team, there'd only be 16 teams. That means 8 whole teams of players now have to play in a lower comp.

So in terms of "where do the depth players go?", the answer is they go to the NSW or QLD Cup.

If we change this, the players that aren't young enough for NYC are going to find it even harder to crack NSW / QLD Cup.

Yep I like the QLD cup (and NSW Cup too).

There's some good clubs that have been around for a lot longer than most NRL clubs that deserve to be competing at the second highest level in Australia.
