Hello all.
SharksForever is a Sharks fan forum, which means that there is different people here that want to use the site for different purposes, and sometimes these things conflict.
In an effort to try and get the best of both worlds I have come up with a system where by some threads are considered 'official' threads, and other threads aren't official and have different rules.
Official Threads are threads that are specifically about one topic and they should remain on topic as much as possible. These includes Player Threads where the talk should always be about that player or things closely related to that player. Another example is Game Day Threads where the discussion should be about that particular game. It can be about how you're looking forward to the game, how the team went in the game, and afterwards a look back at how your night went at the game. It should not be about completely unrelated things like rumours. Finally there will be some threads about specific topics, like the Sharks Development that will also be considered 'Official' and should remain on topic.
Unofficial Threads are threads that don't have the Official prefix. These threads are more relaxed and you can get away with using less structure and wandering a bit off topic from time to time. You still obviously need to abide by the basic forum guidelines.
Please note that with the introduction of this system, users that repeatedly do the wrong thing in the Official threads will risk having negative reputation given to them, and possibly worse.
The reason these rules exist, is because these Official threads are designed to later be looked at as an archive of discussion on that one particular topic. For example a player thread may end up covering the entire career of a player, and if someone wanted to read it from start to finish they shouldn't need to read through all manner of off-topic gibberish.
On the other hand, we fully understand that this place needs to be fun and shouldn't always be taken totally seriously, and there's a place for banter and having a laugh.
I hope that everyone can see the reasoning behind this system and that it's a compromise to ensure that all Sharks fans feel welcome here and all Sharks fans can have their expectations of this place reasonably met.
I am interested in any feedback and would really appreciate your cooperation.
Thanks. :cheers
