That's just how I do my ratings, he could be my pick for the Clive in a GF but he'd still lose 2 points off his final rating if he'd failed to find touch in the game.

It's a pet peeve
It's hard to look past. You don't really need that extra 10-20m so badly that you need to their caution to the wind instead of hooking the ball into the top stands. You really need momentum and turning the ball over like that kills it

Some people are getting lost in Nichos stats yesterday.

The same ones that say a try assist is a BS stat then want to use it when it suits their argument etc etc are stats good or useless ? Pick one.

Nicho on paper/stats had a good game, he had 65 receipts (touches of the ball) but for me and it looks like many others there were parts of his game he can do better because it’s not an individuals game it’s a team game.

Luckily we were playing a team that is sht house and an Individual performance may be able to get you past the easier teams but not against the harder games, just like last year.

Being a one man band is not a flex

Overall I thought he played a good game (pretty sure I’ve covered that off before).

A few errors, but everyone makes errors.

The missed touch finder against the Raiders wasn’t such a big deal (not ideal), but not worth being upset about in the context of the game as we had the game in the bag.

The missed touch finder against the Dragons was a bit more worrying as the game was still in the balance, so we would rather that type of mistake isn’t repeated (plus now 2nd week in a row).

Lastly, we need our other play maker to be “in the game” as a threat so that if Nicho starts to get shut down, our other half can contribute more (more than just a running game). Atkinson was doing some of the hit ups out of our end. Pretty sure not many (if any) half in the comp is doing that for any other team.
Running in the opposition red zone, fair enough, but not charging the ball out of our half I wouldn’t have thought.

If we can get him more involved in “play making” a bit more often (even 5-6 more plays a game), then we as a team are better off.

Thats is/was my only criticism of Nicho (taking on most/as in pretty much all, of the play making duties) and that Atkinson got what 1-2 opportunities to ball play (that plus the missed touch finder).

I‘m hardly shipping Nicho off as “no hoper half” to an unsuspecting club or England.

Being criticised harshly because you need to be a one man band is strange.

Agree with this. I think people on both sides flip-flop on when they want stats to matter.

Genuinely curious as to which parts specifically you want him to do better at though that he alone can control. He should have kicked out, and could have had a few better ends to sets, but I thought he was improved on previous weeks in this area.

You'd mentioned before that he should be linking up better with his halves partner/spine. I don't disagree, but I see this as a team issue, not a Nicho issue alone. As the king of the castle, he plays a significant role in that, but he can't make people be in better positions etc.

He needs to be 10/10 every week to appeal to the masses.

I don't know if that's the case. Nicho is going into a million-dollar contact (I don't think he's on that this year), so I think there is understandably some higher expectation upon him than others. This is exacerbated by the preconceived opinions of him not being a 7. For what we're going to be paying him, he's going to have to start delivering in big games the way that DCE, Moses, Reynolds, Hughes and Cleary do. I can understand that the jury may still be out to a degree until he does that.

Well he was starting to share the load till our 5/8th let down the team.

Hopefully goes back to that when he comes back but till he's back he's going to be the main man.

Would be interesting to know. I highly doubt he's still on his original contract with us now.
Yeah, no idea hey. Often contracts like this will get larger as it goes, as they may account for an increase in the cap down the line. Although with the ratchet clauses that may no longer be the case.

Personally, I'm not expecting him to reach that level this year, but think on his trajectory he will within the next two years. In which case I think we still get great value for the deal.
