i'm led to believe that the americans have a less than outright ban on performance enhancing substances.
Thanks for the picss Pom - this bloke looks like a giant, but to me he has the physique of a professional bodybuilder rather than what I would expect to see in a footballer. He is 120kg, and when most players bulk up to that extent their speed and stamina tend to suffer as a result. I am curious to know, which position does he play, and which physical qualities eg strength, speed, stamina, are the most important requirements for that position?
he couldn't play nrl-he'd fail the drug testing!
I'll admit, they can move alright for the fat lards that they are. Probably helps they only spend a minimal amount of time on field, and the second they're required to change from attack to defense, they get a breather and some other fat lard replaces them.
The fella you posted, Vernon or whatever, is obviously not one of the aforementioned fat lards. He probably is quicker than most our outside backs, and stronger than our forwards. But I'd put my leftie on it that he would be as useless as tits on a bull in the NRL. Something that size cannot run around for 80 minutes attacking and defending until it hurts. He'd be a fantastic impact player for 15 minutes though, I'm sure - but with interchange limits, he wouldn't be worth it, especially since the chances of him evolving into something more than 15 minutes of hell per game would be slim to none.
But I don't wanna compare NFL and NRL, they're completely different games. One is about 34 blokes going hell for leather for 80 minutes matching skill, toughness, endurance, smarts and a whole host of other qualities against each other. And one game is about 8-10 specialty teams containing bugger knows how many people in total going stop-start against each other in 10 minute bursts.
NFL - An 80 minute game that takes 4 hours to complete.
That smacks of NFL/Union for me mate. I see the pros, but I reckon the cons far outweigh. The great thing about League is its relative
simplicity. Anyone can kick back with a beer and watch and understand with just a base knowledge of the rules, even if you can't hear
the telly. If something got pulled up from 3 plays back you'd have to hear either the commentator or the ref to know WTF just happened,
and why everyone is walking 20m back down the field. You'd be buggered at the ground watching the game live
Thats incorrect cap, you cannot call a play back 3 plays down the field in either NFL or Union.
when the aust team went over there to play the tomahawks, some of the boys were on the today show and one of the hosts got bowen to flex his muscles and said "guys, he isnt wearing pads, "you dont wear pads, you guys must be nuts"...
they have no concept of contact sport without wearing a bucketload of protective gear
oh and the patriots will choke in the superbowl

No worries mega. Vernon plays Defensive End, and could maybe play Outside Linebacker in a 3-4 defensive scheme. For his position you need to be quick and agile to mark up against Tight Ends and Wide Receivers who are normally very quick, majority of receivers run a 4.25-4.50 in the 40yard dash. Has to be strong to take on the Offensive Line, some offensive line-man can be anywhere from 6'1"-6'9" and weigh anything from 290lbs-360lbs. Also he has to be able to tackle.
Thanks for that Pom, you obviously have a good knowledge of the game. One thing I have heard a lot about NFL is how tactically-based it is, it is often likened to a game of chess. I would be keen to watch more and try to learn something about it, but I don't often get 4hrs free during a day - which is also the reason I don't watch a lot more cricket!
oh and the patriots will choke in the superbowl
biggest choke in sporting history :lmao
