Say we had a controlling solid type of 7 and then you have Nicho playing 6.
Maybe Nicho has a bit more energy (he's fit anyway) and plays a bit more consistent hypothetically with less errors or whatever, I reckon with him touching the ball less and having less duties he probably becomes less effective anyway
It's because he's running, scheming, kicking, passing every set is what makes him so dangerous
On the other hand if we were to say that his role and style of play doesn't change then what was the point bringing in a controlling solid type half to partner him
I guess there is 2 schools of thought on it - giving Nicho the opportunity to chose his moments vs. Nicho having as many moments as possible.
And with how much good stuff he creates it's not that straightforward to argue he needs to be doing less although I can understand game management being a potential weak point he has plenty of time to improve that.
I think the whole team could do with a lesson on game management and playing the % at times though but it doesn't seem to be our style. Just going down a gear a bit with the ball when appropriate.
But if it's about just kicking to corners and pinning a team in the 10m off the kick Nicho can already do that.
It’s not about him being able to do it, it’s about him not having to be the only half in the team able to do it.
At the moment he has to be in all places at all times. In essence, he can’t get tackled on the fourth, that’s a concern.
Bringing someone in who is able to shoulder some of that responsibility when required, ala Trindall, is the best way to unlock Nicho.
As I said, he still gets to play whatever he wants, still is the dominant half and gets the ball when called, but he will no longer need to be everywhere, doing everything.
