- Clearly had a disagreement with Irvine. That is the crux of the matter.
ugly bastard
20 April 2010"RICKY STUART has put Cronulla's awful run into perspective by admitting the club's precarious financial position had forced it to save money on recruitment and the Sharks would not spend the $4.1 million allowed under the salary cap this year..."
<EDITED>
...''I asked them that and they said they'd be spending the cap,'' Gallen said. ''I hope they're spending it. As far as I know they are.
''That was one thing I asked them. From what they told me and what I expect and what I know, we're going to compete on the field and they're going to get the best possible players they can.''

What does Irivne mean by 80%? Did he mean to say we are 80k short of the cap - or are we only spending 80% of the cap?! If so we are still being fed porky pies by the club."This year we remain spending the cap, although I think, and don't quote me exactly on these figures, but approximately 80% short of the NRL cap. And about another 70 thousand, I think, at last count, in the second-tier cap we are below the cap.

According to Irivne we are 70k below the second tier - that would be consistent with Fisk's statements. However, if we are only at 80% of the first-tier 4.1M NRL cap - then that is 820k below the cap! 820k is not a work in progress as Irvine later describes it. (That is a ***** load of space for rep bonuses or mid-season signings)
If the club has to save money on the cap for long term survival, so be it. But they need to be up front with not only the fans but also the players. I'm over the boardroom incompetence hindering on-field success.
