Sharks Forever's ratings for Cronulla vs Penrith (NRL Premiership, Round 8, 2006)

CRONULLA:
1. David Simmons - 7
One of his best all-round games yet. Very safe, made everything look easy, and his dummy-half running was much better.
2. Darren Albert - 6
Nearly blew the game by dropping the ball over the line in the first half, allowing the Panthers back into it, but had a great second half, scoring with a magnificent take from a cross-field kick, and showing his finishing skills to evade Rhys Wesser and score off a Beau Scott pass.
3. Nigel Vagana - 6
A fairly quiet game, but everything he did was classy.
4. Phil Bailey - 6
Did a couple of good flicks to his winger, but held the ball a bit too often.
5. Luke Covell - 7
Defused a bomb with great courage at an important stage (luckily it was missed that he dropped it!), and goal kicking from the side-line was superb.
6. Brett Kearney - 7
Very good support running, and great enthusiasm.
7. Adam Dykes - 9
Superb game in the first half, orchestrated everything, and brought great confidence to the team. Involved in many of the tries. Got a bit carried away when we got the big lead, and couldn't hand the Panthers a real flogging, but it didn't really matter by that stage.
8. Ben Ross - 5
Injured his knee in the first few tackles. A big loss.
9. Kevin Kingston - 7
Excellent tackling, kick-chasing and go-forward in the first half. The dummy-half decoy plays were good to see. Wasn't quite so good in his second spell, and couldn't make use of the big lead.
10. Luke Douglas - 8
Signed a new two-year contract yesterday, and repaid the faith totally. Aside from one dropped ball, he was the most physically dominant forward on the field. Backed up well to score his second first grade try.
11. Reece Williams - 6
Another strong behind-the-scenes game. Just kept rolling over the Panthers.
12. Lance Thompson - 9
Outstanding off-loading again. As one of the commentators said, at least three 'sublime' off-loads. Two of them in the early stages led to tries within one or two tackles. His tackling was good, seemed to be the only one who could tackle Preston Campbell. No more grubber kicks though!
13. Paul Gallen - 8
With Gallen back, the Sharks are back! Or at least a lot better... :) Made his try look easy, but he had to beat a couple of tackles. Provided a lot of the forward momentum for the Sharks.
15. Beau Scott - 6
A very mixed bag, but the skills he showed to set up two tries, one for Covell and one for Albert, outweighed the three handling mistakes he made. Looked a little nervous, don't know if the dropping helped him!
16. Greg Bird - 6
Loves the Friday night TV games! Didn't do any stand-out plays, but was a handful every time he ran it.
17. Tevita Latu - 7
Carved the Panthers up in the middle, particularly for the Dykes try. His Benji Marshall step might not be working wonders yet, but his Sonny-Bill shoulder charges are!
James Stosic - 5
Didn't look quite as powerful as last year.

Unregistered user's ratings for Cronulla vs Penrith (NRL Premiership, Round 8, 2006)

CRONULLA:
1. David Simmons - 6
Solid, but not outstanding. Not saying he had a bad game but i think he still has some areas of his game to work on
2. Darren Albert - 7
Best game for the season. Scored 2 good tries, blew another. Defence was solid and some good kick returns
3. Nigel Vagana - 6
Didn't get a lot of ball again but still solid in all parts of the game. He gives us confidence and that alone is valuable
4. Phil Bailey - 6
Looks to be improving but still needs to pass the ball more
5. Luke Covell - 7
Can't complain with his game this week. Hope he shows some consistency and plays a lot more games like this one
6. Brett Kearney - 6
Plays a supporting role buts that's all he has to do. Been very impressive since coming into 1st grade. Good game
7. Adam Dykes - 7
Best game of the season for sure. Not perfect, but good. holds onto the ball too much, which can be his downfall
8. Ben Ross - No rating
Lets hope his injury isn't as bad as the predictions, cause we do need him. Sorry Ben i can't give you a rating like some of the others have, you were on for 1 minute
9. Kevin Kingston - 6
Good work in the opening 30 mins of the game, is getting better each week in my opinion
10. Luke Douglas - 8
When Benny went off this young fella took on the Panthers pack and lead by example. Showed his class by doing this and very gutsy
11. Reece Williams - 6
Possibly his best game in a long time
12. Lance Thompson - 8
Keep it up Lance, you are a true leader
13. Paul Gallen - 7
Best game since coming back and showing he's getting back to his form of last year. Good running game
15. Beau Scott - 6
Had a mixed game, coughed up a few balls but he is so strong, usually beats the first and second defenders and showed he belongs in 1st grade
16. Greg Bird - 6
Good but nothing brilliant, showing some sparks in attack just has to show it every week
17. Tevita Latu - 7
Great game for us. Some rippers of shoulder charges and smart work in attack
James Stosic - 5
Solid but nothing brilliant. Did his job and considering his lack of 1st grade experience did it well

Jeff's ratings for Cronulla vs Penrith (NRL Premiership, Round 8, 2006)

CRONULLA:
1. David Simmons - 8
So safe when the ball is in the air or along the ground. Notice that he always gets quick play the balls after his dummy half scurries which gets the defence on the back foot and allows the next player easy metres. Was also good supporting the forwards offloads. Shame no one was there on his outside when Wesser tackled him one on one twice.
2. Darren Albert - 8
Only one error when putting the ball over the line. Made up for it with some really good defensive calls, two tries, and a tonne of running metres. The back three for the sharks is becoming a solid unit.
3. Nigel Vagana - 7
Was a little quiet in what was an exceptional team performance across the park. Should get off his charge for the high shot as the opposition was clearly falling in the tackle.
4. Phil Bailey - 7
It was a pretty good performance from the makeshift centre. Would still prefer to see Beau Scott in the centre's - Beau is a specialist with the right skill set. Its tough when you have such a strong forward pack to keep someone like Phil out.
5. Luke Covell - 8
Great game fro Covell. Heaps of running metres. So solid under the high ball. Kicked well.
6. Brett Kearney - 7
Kearney is forming a great combination with Dykes. Has a great turn of pace and troubles the opposition when he runs.
7. Adam Dykes - 9
Another BIG game from Dykes who lead his team around the park comfortably. Kicked well, orchestrated superbly.
8. Ben Ross - 0
Would have hoped to have a big game against his old team. And with origin around the corner, it was heartbreaking to see him succomb to injury cause he would have been one of the first picked for QLD. Hope he gets back this season.
9. Kevin Kingston - 7
Solid performance. A good foil to the more creative Latu. Made a great kick which held up in the Panthers in-goal.
10. Luke Douglas - 8
The future looks solid in the front row! Ran hard, was rewarded with a try.
11. Reece Williams - 8
Really aimed up against Clinton after Ross left the field. Gets through tonnes of work.
12. Lance Thompson - 8
Another good night of toiling for Lance. Hope he gets a start in city country, and even origin!
13. Paul Gallen - 9
Back to his best. Hard running made good metres.
15. Beau Scott - 7
Had the dropsies and was clearly filthy at himself. Made some good runs and a superb offload to Covell. Would love to see him in the centres as he is more creative and has more pace than Bails.
16. Greg Bird - 7
Was everywhere out there and made some great runs.
17. Tevita Latu - 8
Was devastating out of dummy half and was hitting like a truck with those shoulder charges.
James Stosic - 7
Got some great game time after Ross was injured and performed admirably.
