Titans continue their pathways re-tooling.

Burleigh - out
Keebra Park - out

Ipswich Jets - in

Apparently a Sydney team is going to announce a Keebra partnership soon.

Meh - I've never been much for school footy up here being responsible for developing all of this talent they claim, and the more I learn the more I think it's all a pile of ****. Schools hyper-focus on winning games over player development, and they throw kids in the gym too young. They'd rather a kid is big and strong at 14 than still be playing at 20.

It's really just a numbers game for these schools. For every Keano Kini they can brag about producing they have 30 kids who probably aren't good enough for your local u17 B's.

Marsden SHS is close to me. They have THIRTY grade 7 classes this year. That's ~450 boys in that grade, and plenty of them are going there specifically because it is a Rugby League school. When you have 300+ kids to pick from you are going to find 20 good ones.

Keebra Park wanted Titans to cut an exclusive deal with them at the expense of other schools in their patch
Titans said NO

Cheers egg.

It's funny how all of the reports say how unfortunate it is for the Titans to lose Keebra as a pathway, and then list the non-Titans to come out of the school, or guys like Boyd, Arrow and Fifita who were all snapped up young by the Broncos.

Nikora never gets any love from the journos and commentators talking about Keebra Park. Players who Keebra don't want who go on to be International reps isn't good press for making mums and dads send their kids to footy schools ;)

What (at a wild rough guess) % of these players development comes through their school vs their local club?

Think I got to play in one League tournament while I was at high school although I think there is a 'League' program there now - not sure what that entails. Not a tremendous amount more than when I was there I expect, except I NRL WA staff come in and do some of the coaching, which would definitely be a step up as most of my team had NFI what they were doing.

Depends on the age.

Clubs have a skill development and long-term focus, so do a lot more for players up to about 15-16.

Schools have far more resources than clubs, so once the players at a certain age show a) the talent and b) the commitment/desire, the schools are much more able to focus that than most clubs - which is why at that age (~16) moving to a footy school or a "collector" club can be the right call. E.g. in Brisbane, Arana Hills has 3 former Broncos working full time in development. My club has 1 guy who we share between about 15 other clubs. I've seen him twice in 5 years.

Anyone I have had anything to do with who is part of a school Rugby League program likes to train 12-15 year old kids like they are adults. High training load, gym, whiteboard sessions for structure. It's 100% the wrong way to do it.

The schools (in Qld at least) have parents completely duped into thinking that they have the best development programs, when in fact they vocally oppose running their programs based on what the research says.
