Good point, completely forgot he was a goalkicker! Our new coach was no slouch at the tee (sand pile) he might have some tips.

Number 3 for 44+Whats the percentage for kickers with 44 attempts? (compare apples with apples).
Is Dane Sorensen still on the Sharks board? Our new coach was no slouch at the tee (sand pile) he might have some tips
Imagine trying to toe poke in a pair of Windsor Smith cockroach killers! Is Dane Sorensen still on the Sharks board?
It'd seem a waste if he didn't come down from the office on occasion to give the lads a few lessons in the not so gentle art of toe-poke conversions.
I might need someone to explain it to meI change my answer to this
Bort (like the rest of us) likes to winI might need someone to explain it to me
That's a good point, does waste a lot of time. Probably could just call it 6 and only lose the novelty kicks from Gallen and coI think we have become so accustomed to goal kickers slotting their kicks over from the sideline and all around the park for that matter our expectations on non elite goal kickers maybe is a tad high. We feel as though 80% + is the new norm and not hitting those marks means you are terrible.
I think though we can accept they are going to miss some tough kicks or narrow angles, especially if the conditions are poor
What has been disappointing though in seasons past is established goal kickers missing ones they shouldn't be missing and going 1/4 in tight games where a single conversion would have got us over the line but we just couldn't get it done. Our defense was rarely good enough to get us home we needed every single point on offer to win.
It's said that one of the toughest kicks isn't necessarily the one from the side line but the one that is about halfway between the sticks and the sideline. Not sure how many trys we scored in that area but I recall us missing goal kicks from all over the park
I reckon if you score under the sticks it should just essentially be deemed a "bonus" zone and you are awarded an instant 6 points. Taking 3 minutes to line up a kick from right in front is a total waste of game time, they aren't going to miss it. Yes players have missed these gimme kicks on occasion but it's very rare.
Even Gallen can slot them from there
I doubt there is more than 1 miss from in front per season
Between Hynes and Trindall I think we should be ok if they can be kicking in the high 70% range as I expect all other areas of our game to have improved under Fitz
I love this too Gards. Jesus I hope you're joking mate.Personally I wouldn't mind if they scrapped goal kicking entirely. It's a team sport – should 1/3 of the points really come from one guy's boot?
Not a fan, leave it in place.
There are better ways to cut out wasted time like reducing the amount of time it takes the video ref to make a decision, it's ridiculous.

I’ll only support this rule change if it is introduced mid-season, without a single piece of supporting research, every commentator spends the next year talking about how good it is, and then we make a second similar random rule change the following season.
Well stop the clock for goalkicks if that's what you're worried about. It's part of the fabric of the game, leave it alone. At least the game clock is stopped for the vid ref though. it keeps ticking away while goal kickers line up their shots, at the fans and trailing teams expense. wastes like 2-3 or so mins of game time and in high scoring games that really adds up and means there is far less actual footy being played that fans have paid for and if a team is trailing with a few mins in the game to go it's essentially game over for them by the time the ball is back in play instead of having an exciting finish when they might get another attacking set or 2.
It's also really boring watching a kicker stand around and setup, especially for one right in front. get on with the game
The players are paid enough, fit enough and looked after well enough welfare wise to manage the extra game time of actual footy
You mean like contested scrums, cornerposts, and kicking over the sideline to give your forwards a rest?Well stop the clock for goalkicks if that's what you're worried about. It's part of the fabric of the game, leave it alone.
