And we will probably do the same next week. Especially playing on Sunday afternoon with a 6 day turnaround to finals… I think we should adopt what the AFL does and have a week break between last round and finals to give everyone a rest cause storm will likely get an 8 or 9 day turnaround vs us or panthers only getting a 6 day turnaround
At least the Cows play the 7.30 game on Sat night. Not too much difference in time for rest. Plus they'll have to travel to Sydney, hopefully, which will take a bit more out of them.

Positives: held them to nil (think anyone would have tonight lol).
Got the win despite playing terribly, and I'd say that's just an off night, better now than in the semis.

On to next week. A win will equal most wins in a regular season for the sharks, 18 in 1999.

In years past we **** that game up, all to play for, big occasion at home for Fifita and being the heavy favourites. Glad we got the win, not so happy about the errors again.

Even Cows Rabbits game felt dull and stop start with heaps of errors, thought both missed a few tackles as well.

Too many errors and the attack was a little cluncky... but 0 points, 0 linebreaks

Well, that was painful to watch. The Dogs are terrible, we weren't much better. At least, we kept a clean sheet.
The best moment of the game was the 68th minute. Thank you for ever, Andrew.

Well I’ve rewatched the game, not sure why I did that but I had nothing better to do.

I‘ve calmed down a bit from before, I was not happy at all with the way we played, especially in attack.

But if we take into account the following points, maybe it’s not as bad as we think:

  • We have Kennedy, Katoa, Tracey, Ikavalu, Dykes, Williams, Finucane and Toby all on the injured list. More than a half a starting line up out.
  • Getting the win and having no further injuries would have been the aim from tonight, sometimes you don’t play at your best when you try to do that.
  • Our defence was excellent, only 6 missed tackles and while they did not throw a lot at us, we kept them to zero.
  • Despite our horror error rate we still looked 100% more like creating opportunities than the Dogs did, we never stopped trying to make metres and create chances. Execution let us down unfortunately.
Looking forward to see who is on deck for us next week and seeing how we play.

In attack we struggled big time without having that 3rd man (Kennedy) sweeping out the back - Miller doesn’t have that in his game..

Also felt like we just kept trying to go around them when most of the momentum we got was from when we just went through them

The game highlighted again our of a game manager in the halves as we lacked the ability and composure to sit back, reset and restructure when the errors started mounting up.
Id actually have brought Trindell into tbe game earlier, maybe at 13 when McInnes went off, and told him to sit midfield in the pocket and direct play for a bit, just to steer the ship whilst Hynes and Moylan played either side of the field from him

I think a few of us were like that
we were absolutely not at our best.
some positives to take out for sure

I enjoyed Fitz's presser - he knows it; he sees it; onto to next week and fix what we have to do
for a first-year HC not bad - he's going ok;

1st and last game for the Sharks after this debut.
Large gap between what Iro dished up first crack in 1sts on the wing & what Dykes managed in the harder role of fullback - kudos to Dykes.
That said we all remember that shizen game years ago when Ronny or Katoa were debuting & including Kennedy, they had a grand total of 4 games between them.
Ronny was running around in ever diminishing circles, Kennedy was getting rag dolled and Katoa was struggling to catch the pill.
Iro will be OK-in 18 months.

If the ladder stays the way it is, we could have a really good run in the finals.

Sharks V Cowboys at home

If we win we go right through to the semis?

Assuming panthers beat the storm, then the storm beat the winners of the bottom 4, we’d have the storm in Sydney?

Feel like a home ground advantage would get us through both of those games…

Yeah if it falls our way, we go through to the prelim... against (potentially) a Melbourne team off the back of the Roosters, Eels, Panthers and a knockout final.

Plenty of water to go under that bridge though.

I’d have let our halfback keep doing his job in a game we won 16-0 when the players just wanted a win and no injuries.
A game with something like 8 guys who make our top 17 out, on our third choice FB and with debutant winger, that was three tipped passes away from 3 tries.

I’d have given some pity minutes to Trindall near the end hoping he doesn’t have one of his **** ‘off the bench games’, rather than send him on early at 13 to take over running the team from a bloke who is a potential dally m winner in the position.

I don’t get this post Chad obsession with a game managing half.
Yes we play more eyes up footy and have some errors in the game but Braydon Trindall coming in to run the show doesn’t stop Wade dropping it cold, or most of our other errors.

If Hynes, Moylan, Wade, McInnes & Holdsworth (Fitz) can’t get the team to stop chasing easy points every half opportunity then I doubt show n go Trindall does.

Maybe you’re right but that’s my take anyway.

Solid post Bort, and i can see where your coming from.
Im not a fan of Townsend as a 7 either, think he was/is one of the worst halfbacks in the game (and ill get flogged for saying it i know) cause he never took the line on and his kicking in general play was shocking.

What i would like to see more of in our halves is what the likes of Reynolds, Cleary, DCE, Walker, OSullivan possess, is that ability to be a midfield general and get the team to settle down when plan A isnt going the way it was expected.
Definition of insanity ia doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.
I just feel that whilst its great having 2 running halves playing eyes up footy when the attack is clicking, we lack the composure to change style of play and build pressure on teams when attack falters

As long as we don't play the Roosters. I think they will make the GF.
