This line up belongs on the Facebook groups.
The leaving Kennedy out to keep Hynes at fullback was one thing, perhaps also really keen for Moylan @ 6 although not sure Metcalf would get much consideration for 7 over Trindall, but really lost me by going ahead and still naming Finucane at 8 and Toby at 13
I like the idea of us defensively starting stronger and the pack being stronger and Brailey coming on after the opening 20 minutes. I would likely to see Brailey run more, which I think reducing his minutes will do. But I do think that is our top side at the moment
I like that idea too, although I'd consider it more of a tactical move (Brailey still our main 9, McInnes still our main 13) than that it being their primary positions (ie McInnes is our main 9 and Brailey is our main 14)

I’m still convinced that Brailey at 9 and Cam at 13 is the best way forward for us but I’ll cop your scenario on the chin if it happens as Melbourne proved last year that it can work really well.

I think we'll see Brailz playing 80, with more running opportunity off the back of Finucane and McInness, and I think he'll take it

He’ll probably still look for the pass more often than not rather than just dig his head into a prop and get dominated in the tackle because they are 40kg heavier than him.

Hynes, McInnes and Dale and hopefully Will too will all provide better pass opportunities for him though so our team can make the most of him getting out quick and beating the markers.

I'll settle for him having a solo dig at least once a month.

I don't think we're asking him to pick out NAS to try and run through... between or around should be right in his wheelhouse

Brailey running the ball is more about taking advantage of markers not being square or making a break through tired forwards

Briton Nikora cannot be anywhere near our starting 13. He's absolutely rubbish, runs one line (which can only be run off SJ), and cannot defend to save himself.

Possibly the most spot on first post ever. Well done mate. Welcome aboard.

I am rather concerned how people think Finucane as a prop is going to beneficial.

He is predominantly known as a key defender he is not the type to steam roll over the advantage line or take the early hit ups. He is known for slowing and controlling the ruck speed with his tackling, which is how storm for numerous years (and Penrith this year) have been so successful.

At 102kg he would be 10kg lighter then the average prop weight and would be the lightest starting prop in the nrl.

The sharks 1-5 were quite consistent this year and where not the reason the sharks did not make the finals. Yes there was inconsistently in the half’s, however the forward pack was dominated by all of the decent teams all year with the sharks missing heaps more tackles then every other team and also not being able to get over the advantage line.

Pushing finucane to prop isn’t going to help get over the advantage line and is a waste of what makes him the quality player he is. Surely Lock is his strongest position which is where Melbourne have been so successful in playing him.

As for Cam McInnes, if Finucane was to play lock where he is so potent, where does that leave McInnes, I would think his best position where he was one of the best in his position last year was hooker ( Also where he was super good in defence with higher tackles per game and a much lower miss percentage then Brailey)

Talk of Brailey being in hooker as he will make yardage scooting out of dummy half would be great if the forward pack was making yardage and getting quick plays but this is not the case and by placing 2 small players into both prop and lock is only going to make it harder for the sharks to get quick plays, especially given they already have a really small pack. (Approx. 4kg lighter per forward compared to the top 4 teams this year).

For mine Brailey does have potential but wasn’t great last season and pushing 2 really quality defensive players into non preferred positions so he can hopefully go for a scoot is not beneficial, given just how poor the sharks defence is.

I think the era of big forwards making a lot of metres is somewhat over. Watch the storm and panthers they were making a lot of metres through their outside backs and by moving the ball more (1 out running no longer works). Finucane can play prop and that is definitely where he will play for us he is also around 106kg from what I have seen which is not small.

Finucane will still have a lot of impact at prop with good line speed, being a good ball player for a forward and controlling the ruck. He does do some hard yards but he doesn't need to be a battering ram prop like BHU.

In general players being around the 105-110kg is the ideal prop weight now which is why guys like Fifita and woods have struggled. Fisher-Harris is only 105kg and one of the best props in the game. There are some exceptions to the rule but you only need one or two guys pushing 115kg now in your line up.

Toby 106kg
BHU -115kg
Finucane 106kg
Royce Hunt 115kg
Tolman 102kg
Williams, Graham and Wilton are around 98kg
Talaki is 100kg
Nikora is lighter at around 94kg.
McInnes is around 92kg and I expect him to put on 3-4kg to play lock.

Replacing Nikora with Sims if we could land him would add 10kg to our starting side straight away and would help offset having a lighter pack and why I am such a fan of getting a second rower like him. But I don't think there is any issue regardless with Finucane playing prop and I don't think we have much an issue of size in our forwards other than Nikora being too light.

Given, Fin (born to be a Shark) isn't the games top metre eater, but on average metres made he's on par with our top two forwards, and better than any of the other forwards we currently have by a fair amount.

While Cam averaged more metres per game in 2020 than any of our forwards this year.

So both good upgrades to our ability to get down the field which can only help give Brailz (and our halves) more opportunity.

At this stage until we get confirmed our squad for next year, I'd go almost the same as this year except 1-2 player due to our new signings.

1. Kennedy
2. Katoa
3. Tracey
4. Ramien
5. Mulitalo
6. Hynes (Moylan)
7. Trindall
8. Rudolf
9. Brailey/McInnes
10. Finucane/Fifita/Tolman
11. Williams
12. Nikora/Graham
13. Finucine/McInnes

14. Metcalf/Tracey/Brailey
15. Uele
16. Talakai
17. Wilton

18. Moylan
19. Nikora/Fifita/Hunt

A few were hard to pick due to certain players being able to play numerous positions & being short a prop or 2 because Woods & Tolman leaving then guys like Finucine & McInnes being able to play both positions. I'd be keen to get Fifita back in somehow but I don't think he can go straight back to start. Uele & Talakai are both best to come on as impact off the bench then Graham has been out for a bit aswell. I wouldn't hesitate in getting Tracey or Brailey as the utility if we can find another centre & halfback either though.

I wouldn't mind Trindall coming off as the utility either if we could also find another potential halfback because Moylan certainly can't play as the 7 so atm I've got no other choice to have Trindall as the starting #7.

Mind you, I've read nothing about Tolman playing another year but if he does stay for another year then that certainly puts him into start with Fifita probably coming off the bench.

I highly doubt Fifita will go from playing 15 minutes from the bench in a handful of games this year to a starting prop again. Happy to be proven wrong.

Yeah even if Nikora stays or goes, I just see why he should be in the squad next season.
Rather go with:

8. Hamlin-Uele
9. Brailey
10. Finucane
11. Wilton
12. Graham
13. McInnes

14. Rudolf
15. Hunt
16. Talakai
17. Williams

That is a strong bench. Also, don't want a utility player on the bench either, so Moylan can be 18th.

Whilst I agree with a number of points there is still concerns....

The top 4 teams from this year (playing the "quicker game") all had much larger packs then the teams being mentioned for Cronulla next year (and the Cronulla team this year).

Top 4 teams this year approx pack weight (including 8,10,11,12,13 & heaviest 2 bench players)
1) Melbourne - 765kg
2) Penrith - 752kg
3) Rabbits - 774kg
4) Manly - 774kg

Cronulla forward pack being suggested regularly 706kg :
8) Rudolf 106
10) Finucane 102 (Melbourne Website)
11) Nikora 94
12) Graham 96
13) Mcinnes 91
14) BHU 115
15) Talakai 100 / Williams 98 / Tolman 102

This is a forward pack weight on average 60kg lighter then the top 4 teams from this year. An average of 8.5kg per player. Even bringing in Royce Hunt and getting rid of the smallest player it is still on average 6kg per player. That is a massive difference in size.

The Cronulla pack this year was also much smaller then the top 4 and consistently struggled.

For the above reason I am concerned about moving Finucane to prop & Mcinnes to Lock (where they are both very small for their positions) yes there are other teams with players this weight in these positions, however these teams have larger players elsewhere which Cronulla does not.

I heard someone on the radio say Wade was back next year. Anyone see anything official? I still can't see it happening

Officially didn’t he take the rest of the season off? So he’s back next year until we hear otherwise
