I think we'll see Brailz playing 80, with more running opportunity off the back of Finucane and McInness, and I think he'll take it
I am rather concerned how people think Finucane as a prop is going to beneficial.
He is predominantly known as a key defender he is not the type to steam roll over the advantage line or take the early hit ups. He is known for slowing and controlling the ruck speed with his tackling, which is how storm for numerous years (and Penrith this year) have been so successful.
At 102kg he would be 10kg lighter then the average prop weight and would be the lightest starting prop in the nrl.
The sharks 1-5 were quite consistent this year and where not the reason the sharks did not make the finals. Yes there was inconsistently in the half’s, however the forward pack was dominated by all of the decent teams all year with the sharks missing heaps more tackles then every other team and also not being able to get over the advantage line.
Pushing finucane to prop isn’t going to help get over the advantage line and is a waste of what makes him the quality player he is. Surely Lock is his strongest position which is where Melbourne have been so successful in playing him.
As for Cam McInnes, if Finucane was to play lock where he is so potent, where does that leave McInnes, I would think his best position where he was one of the best in his position last year was hooker ( Also where he was super good in defence with higher tackles per game and a much lower miss percentage then Brailey)
Talk of Brailey being in hooker as he will make yardage scooting out of dummy half would be great if the forward pack was making yardage and getting quick plays but this is not the case and by placing 2 small players into both prop and lock is only going to make it harder for the sharks to get quick plays, especially given they already have a really small pack. (Approx. 4kg lighter per forward compared to the top 4 teams this year).
For mine Brailey does have potential but wasn’t great last season and pushing 2 really quality defensive players into non preferred positions so he can hopefully go for a scoot is not beneficial, given just how poor the sharks defence is.
