I just don't see what attributes Ronnie has to be a decent winger. Not fast, not all that good at finishing, not agile.

Love for him to prove me wrong.

He's a bit of a jack of all trades master of none winger really. Not the tallest, not the strongest, not the fastest, not the most agile, not the most skillful, not the best finisher, not the safest.

His biggest weakness is sometimes he overdoes it a bit being passionate.... and I guess that he has no elite attribute.

He has 39 games played for 25 tries which is a pretty solid given they were over two seasons we scraped into the 8 and one we will likely just miss it.

His ratio is behind JAC, Johnstone and some other elite scorers but on par with the likes of Tupou, Feldt and many others who have made long careers and been around rep teams at times.
To'o has a slightly worse ratio of 47 games 27 tries, obviously he is an elite meter eater and I'd happily take him over Ronnie (sorry Ronnie) but Ronnie is by no means a weak winger. He's not one of the elites though.

you gotta remember, we still have a bit of recruitment to go, players will be released end of season, we are still at least 3 proper first graders off a good team for 2022

Unless Fifi comes off the books I doubt we have more than one decent recruitment left in us for this year. Probably fill another couple gaps better the year after when Fifita and Moylan are out.
We do currently have 7 spots open for next year so between now and pre-season we will likely sign around 5, I expect 4 being squad fillers (like keep Hiroti for example)

we have one decent yes, but players like burns and o'sullivan wont cost much

Yeah both of them may be attainable especially if there isn't much competition for their signatures.

It is amazing how much more confident you can feel in the squad after a good win. All of a sudden it feels like our depth is much better than previously thought. Thought i'd have a go at this now.

1. Kennedy
2. Katoa
3. Tracey
4. Ramien
5. Mulitalo
6. Moylan
7. Hynes
8. Rudolf
9. Brailey
10. Finucane
11. Wilton
12. Graham
13. McInnes

14. Metcalf
15. Hamlin-Uele
16. Williams
17. Talakai

Unlucky to miss out - Trindall, Hunt, Pele, Nikora. I think all 4 of these guys will have a case to play.

The reason I have Trindall out is I think he will benefit more from 80 minutes in reserves working on his management and general play kicking. Metcalf is explosive and valuable to the side even in small bursts, something that Trindall cant match. When Moylan inevitably gets injured, Trindal slots straight into 7. The flexibility of McInnes and Hynes to cover multiple spine positions, plus Williams and Talakai being able to play on the edge means that the 4 reserves can fill just about any injury.

With the squad we have, we don't have to pay overs for anyone right now. If we can get a Lomax to replace Tracey, or a Fotuaika to replace BHU, sure you go for it. But I really think we can fill the squad with some extra depth and hold out for a star. Front load some contracts next year if the right player doesn't become available, keep developing the spine and have a real shot at the title in 2023.

Good side PS, think that’s the go with perhaps option to run Hunt over Metcalf if we feel need for big bench, should we be so lucky as to actually have full fit squad to choose from more than once, if ever.
Talakai could beat Wilton for the start too to open next season.

All depends. If we win the GF this year I would give those halves first crack 😀

Was good until I saw the Moylan/Hynes halves pairing. I’m still convinced it wont work.

Uele and Williams have to be playing on the field at the same time...for their entertainment value

Wade Graham for mine shouldn’t be an auto select, going on last 2 years of form.

Not to mention I think both Finucane and Mcguiness would be at least equally good if not better captains.

Would much rather play a continually improving Talakua, Williams and/or Rudolph.

Wade Graham definitely has class touches in him, but, the good teams like Melbourne, South’s and Penrith are going to beat up on the current pack and an aging and continually injured Graham makes this worse not better.

In response to Proud Sharks 1-17-

I think Trindall has had enough time in lower grades. He won't learn anymore there. He needs the faster pace and bigger bodies week in week out. That doesn't they can't rest him every now and then.

I am thinking Trindall / Hynes with Moylan 14 to start with. Wont be long before Metcalf gets a call up.

Tracey to start in centres.

Moylan will get the gig in front of Metcalf but will likely be injured so I have added metcalf.

Nikora been good last couple of weeks but has been missing for a couple of years as has Graham.

I don’t have a particular issue with where you have ended up with trindall starting and Moylan on bench but I don’t agree in the reasoning that Trindall should start just so he doesn’t have to play reserve grade.

Up to him to prove to Fitz in preseason (and opportunity rest of this season) he deserves a place in the side and if he doesn’t then he goes to reserve grade, if he is the best player in reserve grade but still can’t beat out the others in our side for a start bad luck

I like this. Metcalf has shown he is a gun, but let’s not rush him. This year will be a great introduction to what’s expected. What I don’t happen is he is kept at the 18th man not getting a game at all

Well the good news is (I think) you can't be 18th man on consecutive weeks so worst case he only gets no game every second week

My point Bort re reserve grade was that he doesn't need to spend time there just to improve his game management (which was the original posters opinion).

If there are more deserving players to get the gig infront of Trindall (based on form and coaches opinion etc) than great so be it.
