Hey guys, couldn’t find a thread dedicated to the World Cup so thought I would make one.

Going to be a very close competition IMO. I honestly think 5 teams can win it.

My tip though is that the kiwis will be the ones holding the cup come the final round.

Samoa has named a pretty decent bloody side. With there stronger spine I think they will cause a couple of upsets and can get over Tonga.

Tonga’s squad really does lack a decent spine

This is just out of my own interest to see how the sides line up a bit better than just lists

Samoa

A touch lacking in spine still but backs and forwards make up for it. Massive contest for spots in their forwards.
BHU might actually be a better chance of a run with NZ. Oregon is eligible for Tonga too but might be closer with these guys.
Assume FB might be why Suaalii chose Samoa

1. Suaalii/Tabuai-Fidow
2. Suaalii/May/Tabuai-Fidow
3. Tago
4. Crichton
5. To'o
6. Luai
7. Milford/CHT
8. Papali'i
9. Brown/Levi
10. Paulo
11. Su'a/Tuilagi
12. Leilua/Tuilagi
13. Su'a/Leilua/Brown/prop

Bench: Brown/CHT/Milf/Tabuai-Fidow/Aloiai/Hunt/Hamlin-Uele/Leniu/Kaufusi

Tonga

Similarly Felise K may have been more guaranteed a run with Aus than Tonga, they are stacked in forwards.
Tough one to figure out... I only ended up with 2 jerseys uncontested.

1. Hopoate/Koula/Niu
2. Tupou
3. Penisini/Suli/Koula
4. Suli/Koula
5. SKatoa/Tu’ipulotu/To'a
6. Lolohea/Amone
7. I Katoa/Lolohea
8. Fonua-Blake/Taukeiaho/Pangai/Tatola
9. Havili/Luke
10. Fonua-Blake/Taukeiaho/Pangai/Tatola
11. FKaufusi/Koloamatangi/Frizell
12. DFifita/Olakau’atu/Frizell
13. Taumalolo

Bench: Ofahengaue/Fonua-Blake/Taukeiaho/Pangai/Tatola/Fotuaika/FKaufusi/Koloamatangi/DFifita/Olakau’atu//Frizell/Luke/Havili

I'm kind of guessing Talakai may need a shoulder reco otherwise comes into contention for left centre or bench spot too.
Probably give him a bench jersey at some stage but it's hard to see how Andrew Fifita gets a run with this side.
Staggs was on list but he's out injured now.

NZ

1. Manu
2. Rapana/Watene-Zelezniak
3. Kris
4. Hiku
5. Mulitalo
6. Brown
7. Hughes
8. JBromwich
9. Smith
10. Fisher-Harris
11. KBromwich
12. Papali'i
13. Tapine

Bench: Asofa-Solomona/Waerea-Hargreaves/Hamlin-Uele/Harawira-Naera/Marshall-King/Nikora/Foran/Nikorima

It's hard to look past the much better spine of NZ compared to the other two
I think this side is more obvious than the other two. The Brom bros didn't finish up in great form but I think loyalty will start them anyway, which is unfortunate for Nikora as it could means no jersey in first choice side. Although chance they start NAS on an edge instead.
The middles could juggle around but I like this starting trio a lot.
hmmm.. not sure if BHU does make this side easier than the other... maybe just means he wouldn't be contesting with Hunt though. Good chance they both make first choice 17s if BHU goes NZ

Edit: Frizell has said he wants to play for Tonga not Aus apparently so I added him in. Very crowded edge, but with Aus he competes with Murray/Crichton/Lane/Young/Nanai/Martin

Semi final match ups likely to be Australia v New Zealand and England v Tonga.

Samoa v Tonga probably the best quarter final.

Tonga needs to back the young spine players for mine.
Start building around a spine of Koula, Amone, Katoa and Luke now.

Im really looking forward to this tournament. The most open race its ever been BY FAR. An actual competitive International Tournament. This is what we’ve been hoping for for years. 4 maybe 5 teams look verrrrrrry strong, and others not far behind. Australia’s depth will be tested but its a good opportunity for guys to step up that wouldnt normally get a look in for the Roos.

The fact that the football World Cup will be on at roughly the same time? Well my November is stacked, cant wait.

Holy **** that NZ spine is the best its been for years, the only real question mark is Manu at fullback, but we all know what he can do. Thats a spine thats still got years together coming up as well.

I don’t know how Lolohea has been but if he’s better than Amone and Katoa you def play him. World Cup with a decent squad isn’t build for the future territory imo

And packs are good enough defence shouldn’t be a huge concern so whichever hooker is throwing crisper passes can have the gig. If it’s Luke then Havilii good chance for a spot on bench though

What do we think Aus side is?

1. Tedesco
2. JAC
3. Mitchell
4. Holmes
5. Tualagi/Cobbo
6. Munster
7. Cleary
8. Fa'asuamaleaui
9. Hunt
10. Campbell-Gillard
11. Murray
12. Crichton
13. Yeo

Bench: Grant/Cotter/Carrigan/Lane/Young/Nanai

Wasn't really sure about starting prop but RCG has a good opportunity to make a claim for it in GF, otherwise maybe Carrigan. Not sure if I am forgetting an eligible prop who could be in first choice 17?
Crichton could move into middle rotation to bring Lane Young or Nanai in, although Crichton could lose start if Lane kills it in GF?
DCE could be 7
We are a little shallow due to some defections - Tupou, Suaalii, Paulo, SCrichton, FKaufusi, Frizell all would have been either in or close to it.

Looks pretty bang on. You could possibly see the no.5 change for Holmes (does he play that side?) to bring in a gun centre.
I'm not sure I like Hunt starting at hooker but surely he's in the side and I don't see anywhere else for him.

Aussies apparently want Korisau to start at 9. With Grant on the bench.

In regards to Frizell - I wouldn’t even have that bloke on the bench for my Tonga team if I was coach. He’s also already for Wales and Australia. How many fucking nations is this bloke eligible for. It’s actually laughable.

Poor Ben Hunt. Will probably win Dally M, and has been the best player on the field in 3 of the last 9 Origin games. Not one of the best 17 available for Australia though apparently...

Smashed a 40/20 from hooker playing for Australians PM team v PNG. Some good marketing by the NRL, did not even know it was being played. That being said I don’t watch or read a lot of news

I didn’t either. Seen nothing for it.

I fear for England in this tournament.

They’re a Tier 1 nation (top 3) but could easily finish 5th or 6th.

I hope they can be competitive.

Not sure there is a better right centre. Probably Lomax would be next.
Or you play Latrell right and bring Burton onto left centre
