FOUR Warrington Wolves players have been named in the Wales and Ireland squads for the forthcoming European Cup.

Lee Briers and Rhys Williams have both earned call-ups from Wales' head coach Iestyn Harris, while Simon Grix has been named in Andy Kelly's Ireland squad.

Tyrone McCarthy has also been included in Ireland's 30-man Cup squad, but will play no part in the competition after undergoing shoulder surgery on Wednesday.

The European Cup gets underway next Saturday, October 9, with a coveted place at Rugby League’s top table awaiting the winners.

Ireland, France, Wales and Scotland will be competing on a round robin basis over three weekends for the European Cup trophy, which has been in existence in various guises since 1935.

The winners will join Rugby League’s elite nations, New Zealand, Australia and England in the 2011 Four Nations.

On Saturday, October 9, Ireland travel to Avignon to take on a youthful and untested France side.

Twenty four hours later holders Wales, infused with 14 Engage Super League stars including Wolves' Lance Todd Trophy winner Lee Briers, head up to Glasgow to face a Scotland side that is sure to include Huddersfield Giants star Danny Brough.
