Does anyone else get the feeling that there is a witch hunt going on especially now there is yet another "please explain" today from the NRL into allegations of strippers in changerooms and sale of sex toys at the club ? There was also an enquiry regarding the dismissal of a female employee of the club last year. Add this to the spread in the telegraph today .... wow talk about kick someone when they are down !!!!

feels like it but lets be honest. The NRL did not glass Kate Milligan, nor did they give Brett Seymour alcohol or have group sex in NZ or inject Matuia (and if true they did not bring strippers into the change rooms, provide sex toys or whatever)....
Add to that the fact that we are dead last and have major financial issues....
None of this is the NRL's fault.
Media is a different story, they are a bunch of buzzards! this is our darkest hour and the media is out for a story. We can only show our support and get to the games.

Absolutely.

It's no secret that many in the media want us out and replaced with a central coast team.

I can’t wait till the CC team is a failure. Why does everyone hold such high hopes for a central coast team? They never get big crowds to games up there anyway. It’s bull****.

Furthermore, the media love controversy. It's their job to feed on this kind of stuff. If you scratched the surface of any club you'd find heaps of crap. It’s our turn at the moment.

People won’t be happy until we’re dead. People love looking at car crashes.

STAY STRONG AND FIGHT. IT WORKED FOR SOUTH SYDNEY.

Yep - feels like we are being pushed by the NRL towards the Central Coast. However, agree 100% with Great White Shark: we have largely brought this upon ourselves.

most of the above, would probably not rate anything except a couple of paragraphs on page 8, if it wasn't about a Rugby League side. Todays journalists are the lowest of of lifeforms on the planet, they do not care who they hurt or destroy just to get one up on some other piece of scum journalist. Heaven forbid I ever end up in a situation that is considered newsworthy ( like the one i saw where a young child was killed & one of these dirtbags was trying to interview a parent the same day) & one sticks a microphone in my face & asks one of their inane questions, they will bite the dust so quick it won't matter & I will accept whatever follows..they are out to destroy league in general..

Sex, drugs (where's the rock n roll)...If I was Daid Gallop I'd be worried by what I'm hearing day after day. With LG going, he knows how dire their finances are, so he's doing what's expected. No witch hunt. the NRL needs to be heavy handed with this mob. They've done us no favours.

I don't really agree. They wouldn't be doing their job if they turned a blind eye to this sort of rubbish. It's scandalous. Let's not shoot the messenger, shoot down the board.

And they will keep kicking as long as it sells papers!

On a side issue, I love Moruya. Grew up going there all the time. Usually to the old camping grounds at Congo! **** I miss that place.

The club doesn't like Rock n Roll. If there was Rock n Roll at the Leagues Club people might actually go there. ;)

It may upset the people they are trying to sign up as new residents in the development. I hear they are looking at a new hair salon as well, featuring a blue, black and white rinse!

New fans, I love it

Cronulla Sharks refute a number of 'facts' in Fairfax article
By Ian McCullough

May 21, 2009 The Cronulla Sharks have released a statement refuting a number of 'facts' outlined in a Fairfax Media article that was published this morning.

Beleaguered NRL club Cronulla have denied a report that two sex workers were invited into the team's dressing rooms and that players were given sex toys to take home.

In a statement released on Thursday, the club also reiterated that an incident where a former employee was hit in the face by chief executive Tony Zappia was an accident.

Fairfax media reported that early last year players were offered sex toys to take home to their wives and girlfriends and an unofficial supporter of the club, who owned chain of sex shops, entered the dressing room after a game at Toyota Stadium with two scantily-clad female friends.

The Sharks have confirmed that: Cronulla players were not offered sex toys to take home; no sex shop owner is a sponsor of the Cronulla Sharks; the two women in question are not sex workers as asserted in today’s Sydney Morning Herald article, but rather are sales representatives from an interstate boutique brewery; the two women in question did not enter the dressing rooms of the Cronulla Sharks after the game in question.

In relation to former community liaison officer Jenny Hall, who suffered severe bruising from the incident involving Zappia, the statement said the club was working with the NRL to clarify the circumstances surrounding that situation.

The cash-strapped Sharks, who found out on Thursday main sponsor LG Electronics would not renew their association with the club at the end of the season, have also been hit by the suspension of forward Reni Maitua on Wednesday, after he tested positive for a banned substance.

The statement also said a time and date has yet to be decided for a meeting between the NRL and the Sharks' board of directors.

I thought the media has been pretty fair, until today. Jacqueline Magnay's report in the Herald talking about sex toys with little fact and dressing up Zappia's incident from last year to make it look like a new incident was low and unneeded and looks like she is trying to sell papers and kill the sharks. She seemed determined to make the sharks players look like a bunch of anti-woman brutes which is irresponsible journalism at a time when the club is so vulnerable.

There are so many fact-based stories about the sharks atm so there isnt really a need to start speculating is there?

i really hope someone like Mason comes out and does something soon so the focus is off us. Peeing is not enough unless its in a chicks mouth. Come on Mason, take one for us!

Is there anything else they can dig up that they haven't already.. i think they've just about got all our misdemeanours from the past 7 years covered now.

I am so mad.

The thing that gets me the most is the fact that the public all think these stories have just happened. My friends constantly ring me to ask 'what's going on with you Sharkies?.. it's old news!!' i say.

When we brought Chris Anderson in we'd made a conscious to decision to 'harden up' and lose our pretty boy/ choker image in order to gain our first premiership.
Now these stories are collectively taking the gloss of our proud history and i am ticked off as i'm sure most of you are, because i havent spent the last 30 years of my life barracking for this club (from afar in QLD), to see us go down this way without winning a premiership !!!

If i lived closer i'd be at the games for sure

The Herald is supposed to be a reliable news source. I am beginning to wonder. Look at what leaguehq is running right next to their trashy story on the sharks...

I've always considered the ABC and the Herald to be the most reliable, but now I’m beginning to wonder.

The Herald’s sports writing has become particularly bad. I can't believe that they employ Danny Weidler. They lose all credibility right there. His writing is biased trash and nothing more.
