Sorry to railroad the WK thread but anyone know how Dykes is going?
I haven't watched him for a few weeks now so this is a little out of date. Has had some nice highlights lately though.

First few games back wasn't heavily involved. Split time between fullback and halves. When in the halves didn't do much kicking - but Conti is a weapon so he didn't really need to. Looked better after a few games back, which is understandable. Still has the speed and the nice passing game.

Mitch Woods is back this week so I expect they go with Conti/Woods as their halves and Dykes at fullback for the foreseeable future... or at least until the NRL team is finally put out of their misery and they give one or both of those young halves a shot.

This was his first try of the season on 1 May. He was wearing 6 but played fullback. In general don't trust the numbers because he has also worn 1 and played five-eighth.

Also got 2 tries in round 13.

and one in round 12 (this one is sweet)

Cheers mate, hoping he finally kicks the injury curse.

Haha to be fair, I feel like this conversation has really only been the last few years. And clearly the coaching staff were pretty keen on bringing Dykes through too it just never worked out.

Credit to Will how he's continued to improve.
I think the fact we don't appear keen to extend him for more than 12 months at a time tells us all we need to know.

Haha these are my favourite two words to read on the forum. They usually mean "I think" but can also mean "I can read minds and I know".

From what they said they were keen on bringing Dykes through but we don't know it would have been at the expense of Kennedy. Dykes was splitting time between fullback and halves in cup and training in the centres with the NRL team occasionally. Anything beyond that is speculation. I think Dykes was in line for the Atko role... which makes sense given they signed Atko a week after Kade did his ACL. It's just what I think though.
You're right, those two words are a bit over the top if you want to take them literally, but I'll be a bit more reasonable.

On the evidence, I believe it's fair to assume that WK hasn't been the long term plan for the last few years. Between signing him to single year deals, and not keeping a lot in the cap for him, and prioritising other signings, it feels reasonable to assume this.

Add to that, the full season of Dykes sitting in the coaches box almost every game. We don't see that with other juniors, so it also feels reasonable to assume that the club had high hopes for him to play first grade with us.

Also when you consider we did prioritise signing our 5/8 long term, the most reasonable pathway for Dykes would have been at fullback. Granted it's also fair to assume he may have taken the Atko role first.

Put all that together and it feels very reasonable to assume that Will hasn't been the mid-long term fullback plan A for the last 2-3 seasons.

None of that is a slight on Will though who has been doing an incredible job.

I still have that moment from the Warriors game in my mind, with Big Will charging down Te Maire Martin’s kick, regaining possession, and getting the ball to Trindall, who scored a field goal. What a legend.
Warriors fans are still blowing up about that!

I think it's more Willtook a year at lower pay to help us manage the cap, and is getting his makeup contract.

Seems to have matured, gotten bigger, stopped getting folded on every kick return and started spending time around the middle of the park.
This guy I would sign longer term.
