You'd want to be reasonably sure he could handle FB I reckon for that coin.
I'd pay him that to play centre. You're signing a player who is almost good for 1-2 tries a game of his own brilliance. That's worth the money to me.

I'm sure MG's looking good, but better than Best? The 25 year old Australian test centre? If he were 30, sure. But you'd have at least 6 years of absolute top-shelf quality from the guy.

I do think you'd be crazy not to sign someone of Best's quality if you could. Especially if you have Will on $500k.
Best can’t stay on the field longer than a month though. Almost got worse hamstrings then turbo

Yeah dunno I'd pay him that much to be a centre and I love him.

So far he's scored 4 tries, 1 try assist and 4 line breaks. Obviously a hell of a lot more than that goes into creating tries, just not sure he contributes as much as in bold.

Yeah it's more his second phase, tackle busts etc that get the team really moving down hill to create opportunities. He's a nightmare to play against and I'd love to have him here.

The markets moving. I feel like it's pay up or miss out. I'd rather not miss out.

Still only 26 years old, plenty of good footy ahead.

Exactly. I think the current landscape means you need to take a risk paying up to get a player from the market. Look at Bula. Most would say 1m is overs right now, but if the tigers had to go to market there's almost no way they get the same value player for that money. So even paying a bit overs right now (for the right players) makes sense to me.

I'd love a Herbie

I'd also take Best at a good value contract and Gabrael be damned. Sometimes you have to back in youth, sometimes you have to take the current rep player on offer and the hyped youngster who has proven nothing can figure something else out

As well as Will is playing I'd still love an upgrade there, we've seen this kind of form from him before without it lasting.

Easier said than done, I know.
He seems to have turned a bit of a corner. But I would (probably...) have had Tracey back, so I'm definitely not sold either.
We seem to have a team full of players who could be anything, but aren't taking that next step up (barring Brailey)

For someone who apparently has had glimpses of good form but not maintained it he seems to poll pretty well, pretty consistently on our player votes. So probably says a lot about other players maybe wearing that same criticism...

The team needs an upgrade to compete for a premiership. The spine is where the most meaningful upgrades can occur, and he happens to be the most dispensible from both a contract and playing perspective.

If this team had 2022 Nicho and late 2024 Tricky consistently in the halves, Kennedy would be a perfect re-signing. But we don't. Tricky is still a work in progress, but the Nicho ship has sailed, and we are attached to it.

The fact that he's well and truly outperforming his contract is almost irrelevant to me. Unless he can find an elite level, he's probably the one who has to go unless something major happens in the player market to allow a different change.

Alternatively, we keep running it back and look back in 5-10 years on this era and what could have been.

Sadly for Kennedy, you just don’t win without a gun fullback. Over the last 20 years the “worst” was Coote and he was in career best form

I think that's up there with you can't win if you have lost by 50 in a season.

Every team has so many dynamics, and it takes so much to win a comp - plus some luck with injuries.

A lot of teams with world class fullbacks dont win a premership each year.

Whats more important is making top 4 , then your whole team playing at a 8.5 out of 10 over a month of footy.

Yeah fair. So you'd likely sign a starting cup winger over the top of Dixon? Have PLS and Jones as the centres and Williams on the wing?
Probably, but Dixon could surprise us, or Fitz might see Jones as the next man up.

PLS definitely at left centre.
Williams can float between either wing and right centre. I think Jones will still be doing plenty of #19 duty.

Of course the 4 is more important. Class fullback is the icing on the cake that’s needed.
History has proven you can win comps with someone in your spine being a “not great option” eg Shane Perry, Mitch Kenny, Chad Townsend. No one’s done it at fullback yet

Yet. Let's do it!

Though, when Kennedy is at his best, he is a very good fullback (in my opinion). Just need him to do it all year
