What to do about a problem like Penrith?

Gus and Cleary are 2 different topics in Penriths success.

1 is responsible for off field success, 1 for on field
I'm confident getting their pathways into shape and their academy has had a fair bit to do with on field success. There is definitely crossover there.

They’re a phenomenal playing group but it’s Nathan that sets them apart, whenever opposition begin to get the upper hand he pulls out something to swing momentum. Happens against us routinely with his 40/20s. And once they have momentum no team runs down hill better.
Wish he’d do it in SOO for NSW

Simply our forwards have to exceed their( Riffs) ferocity in the finals, and our backs must take the chances, which hasn't happened for 80 minutes last two match up.

The reason he can't do it for NSW in Origin is he's only got 1-2 training sessions to get combos going again with new & different players, he's got Penrith players all the time outside Origin. Hence why I think the NRL making him out to be the best ever player in the world is a tad too far at this stage. In order to be the best you've got to perform consistently at all levels & with all different players whenever, can't even do it for Australia.

Being from QLD I hope it stays like this haha ;). One problem with NSW is how often they chop & change players every year & every series. With different players regularly there'll be less time to get new combos going on every attacking set.

During QLD's Mal Meninga era winning 8 straight series we tended to keep the same players so we had more time working on every combo, even in some games we lost we still kept the same squad going. Hence why I think JT is a tad bit better then Cleary because he won regularly at Cowboys (not premierships) but still won a lot of games at club & rep level.

Half the NSW side has been made up of his fellow Penrith players…

But I’m with you. Happy for him to continue to suck at Origin and agree that his performance at rep level lets him down when it comes to GOAT status.

Don't think anyone can dispute this. In saying that, if I'm a Penrith fan I couldn't give a rat's what he does for anyone other than Penrith.

I like that they are so fit that they move forward swiftly in defense in a straight line together don't even have to bother to slow to tackle down ( unlike the Sharks ) . Back and ready to rinse and repeat.
