It’s quite obvious that our defense is our strength, even though we have had some scary moments on the right wing… and it wasn’t just the first 10mins of last night but I also noticed it against the knights. Never the less it has improved and no doubt we have shown that we have one of the best defenses in the comp, and I hope it will only get better and they continue to muscle up. But I believe that our weakness is in the centers on attack. Now I know that people are going to argue this, so let me make one thing clear, Pomeroy and Anderson are playing outstanding. However they lack the vision which I believe has cost us some tries. I noticed that a number of times they have failed to get one more pass out to the wings which would have been certain tries. But that will improve with experience.
What do you believe our weakness is?

the conditions we played in yesterday were always gonna make for a low scoring game. it was gonna be an arm wrestle in the middle and we muscled up and won. i dont think our attack is a massive problem yet but perhaps our kicking game in the opposition 20 can be a little more creative

well first off all. we have to perfect our defencive game. and we almost have. once ricky is happy with that and doesnt need to practise it so much, he can start working on attact and kicking. new coach new ideas its only early in the season lets see wot ricky can do.

"defence wins games"...but we need to score points to shut out teams...take out the dragons game we average around 17.5 points a game..less then 3 tries..but we have conceded on average about 8-12 points a game so...i dont know what to say..but i want us to score more...take advantage of the role ons we get, the metres the forwards are making then come last tackle and we stuff up...when the centres get the ball they dont really know what to do...dykes can get us repeat sets and points but noddy cant...his ineffective bombs to k.hunt last night proved that nodd didnt know what to do..noddy should keep with the long kicks..cause he can find the most nuetral ground in the comp..and has the ability to keep the ball up instead on goin dead..dykes is better with the short game and getting repeat sets.

Mistakes at critical times

Cronulla recently have gained a reputation for caving in defensively at critical times, namely 5 minutes before 1/2 time and full time. That's a definite weakness in what impressively is a much improved team from last year.

At a few stages last night the boys looked creative and threatening. But there's still too much one out running and Brett Kimmorley's kicking is still not consistent enough.

I liked the set moves. Haven't seen those for a long, long time. Bring it on!

what about the set play round one against panthers scrum about 10 out from the panthers line..noddy fed the scrum..bird at lock picked the ball up and darted right....as bird did that kearney ran from the left of the scrum to the right..noddy ran and got on the right bird...kearney got onto the other side of the scrum..bird ran towards the first defender on the right side..and dummied to noddy and turned himself to the left and opened up a gap and kearney from the left to right run around the scrum ran into the gap birdy had opened up and he scored

Couldn't have said it better myself.
It has been a long time since I have seen the opposition really hurting, nearly 20yrs in fact. Our boy's really gave it to them last night, and the Brisbane injury toll says it all. We tackled hard right up to the bell. Yes it took a little while to warm up but once we did it was very impressive.
People have said on this forum that you need to score alot of points to win games. You only have to score alot if you conceed alot.
Defence win games........full stop.

double you undoubtably are right, if you fall apart it will be in defence first and then the attack will follow, unless the defence is fixed up.

Iwas reading an article earlier in the week ... I think either Wayne Bennet or someone like that wrote it, something about a halfback for Brisbane or something, but the best bit was when he said something about Moon being a big strong runner, and "you need blokes like that when you're playing a physical side like the Sharks."

That made my day!

that is a very good mention, looks like the two gutsy wins in a row helps raise our status.

I agree with you Peachey....I love to see many more set pices of play from the scrum inside the oppositions 20-10 metre line. The first set play against the Panthers was excellent but would love to see more of those or even make up new plays

I agree with you totally. I think and this comes down to awareness and poor skills which are hard to teach and learn, some have it and some don't. Both centres sometimes lack to play what is in front of them, yes they can run into gaps, they are strong, and the y are fast, but they both lack handling and passing ability, for example you watch everytime Pomeroy our LEFT centre runs the ball, he carries naturally the ball in his right arm, this is a no no, when your on the left, you need your right arm to fend off covering defense, he has bombed a couple of tries because of this, both centres are too busy tucking the ball under there arm and going for it, you watch Gaz or Cooper, both have a strong ball carry out in front and look like they are going to kick or pass either way. They are both young and are being coached now correctly but things like that take time to change. Hard too, when they are doing a lot o other things so right to be so critical.

Yeah, I noticed that Kearney always holds the ball in both hands out in front of him, only tucking it in when it's almost impact time.

A lot of players these days are great athletes, but not so great footballers. So they're athletes who play football, rather than footballers who are really fit. That's the way professional sport is going.

my opinion is our weakness is the inside ball we do about 20 iof them everygame abd is very predictable but then our bombing of tries is ridiculous against the raiders we should have put 50 on them our centres ben pomeroy and fraser anderson bomb tries but do create many give the ballwide as often and use the bomb noddy

Your right there sos, we should of scored at least 4 more tries. But when the difference in tight games is a try or 2, you want your players skills to be top notch to ensure we convert into points.
