If you give me a choice, Im taking 50 over cricket over that 20 over rubbish. But it appears im in the minority. Something has to give, the schedule is becoming too packed as it is, I don’t think we’re far away from one of them, probably 50 over cricket, being binned from the international calender to relieve the schedule and put more focus on test cricket and 20/20.

Yep I see it going that way, ODI cricket is dead from a commercial perspective.

It's sad in a way. Fond memories of going to the 'Gabba as a kid, sitting on the dog track and watching Australia vs whoever was touring that summer. The 50 over games were exciting and colourful and -at that stage- still a novelty. But yes, the only ODIs I find even vaguely interesting anymore are the World cup games. :(

Steve Smith has changed his batting stance to orthodox side-on.

Some of his shots are looking as graceful as Gower or Mark Waugh.

What a twist.

I was about to cut sick at Warner scoring just 16 tonight but then I saw what he scored in the first ODI

I still think the bloke is lucky to be playing first class cricket in 2022, he isn't even good at T20 and only puts some innings on in Tests on flat pitches at home. His averages over his career look solid and all but he gets out from silly shots and lack of patience too much - been a frustrating player to watch for a long time now but the selectors are stuck to him like glue.

At 36 yrs old surely we look to move on from him soon. The knives were out for Ponting and Clarke in their mid 30's and they were far better cricketers that Warner

Some good bowling from Aus tonight but some poor batting from the English

Crowd actually sounded pretty good over the Tele and radio even if I assume there were plenty of empty seats they seemed to be having a good time.

I think ODI 50 over format just needs some rule tweaks beyond just having the powerplay to deal with some of the slower or more predictable parts of a innings

It seems like a pretty nothing series too.

There hasn't really been any marketing or hype that I've noticed.

Guessing the reason for the series was that a chunk of the English team were here anyway and its being treated as a warm up for the ODI WC.

Also trying to fit some internationals in between the various T20 comps.

I'm actually looking forward to the Windies Test - I work from home now on Wednesdays so I'll have this on Kayo while I am working.

We should win easily I hope.

Just on local kids cricket - my boy's team which I coach (Under 14Cs) played the team coming last on Saturday and what's more they hadn't even won a game. Well they have now. :(

We were bowled out for 40, so many poor shots were played that our opener carried his bat for 15 not out. Only thing in their defence is this - we are one man short throughout the whole season - there weren't enough registered players for 11, so we play with 10 players every week. I had a kid out for this game with Covid, another has ADHD and turned up sick and could hardly run or bat and another kid had a bung knee and could not bowl or hardly run. Another kid bats at 11 every game because he's a genuine number 11 and our star bat who scored 68 not out the week before, got an edge to the keeper early on and got a duck.

Anyway with nothing to lose, I sent our opening bowlers in (my son and another kid) with the message to bowl as fast as you can and take no prisoners. In half an hour we had them 7/11, my boy took 4-8 off 5 overs and the other kid took 2-4 off his 5 overs. (Five overs is the maximum they can bowl in a day in this age group). Needless to say their number 8 & 9 bats played themselves in and got the runs eventually. We ended up bowling them out for 51.

I’m with you on the 50 over being better than 20 over spectacle from a purist cricketing point of view. I enjoy it much more. However it’s never going to take over 20/20 popularity

Another massive crowd. Complete waste of time.
Just over 2,500. Laughable. I mean I’d be happy to sweep the Poms in anything but this series is pointless and no one cares about it. Would of been better off giving the guys a rest before the Windies test series on the 30th.

Wasn't long ago it would have been a sellout. Sad.

I was listening to ABC, Kim Hughes sounds like he's off his chops.
I agree. There’s some other new guy on there too that seems to think he needs to yell every time he talks. Don’t know his name.

Have always liked Jim Maxwell, I don’t mind Dirk Nannes and I think Ali Mitchell is brilliant. But the rest of them aren’t great.

The stats guy Rick Finlay is good but the poor bloke must get the shits every time they want some off the planet stat!
