My 1-5 changes daily. As long as Mitch Brown doesnt play I will be some what satisfied.

I honestly dont know how we pick a 1-5

Probably what Flannagan thinks to, which makes me believe that he will end up going with the 'safety first' option because that's his style.

Gordon
Feki
Beale
Leutele/Ayshford
Brown

Don't like that at all.

Pick your 1-5

1 Gordon
2 Feki
3 Beale
4 Bird
5 Gagan

17 Holmes

* 3 forwards and Holmes on the bench.
* If a back gets hurt we do not need to change the forward rotation.
* A 4th bench forward usually gets bugger all game time anyway.
* Bird can handle the back row , giving us a 4th forward option if needed.

The issue is how Holmes gets into the game without an injury, the coaches can work that out, but it would have been the same issue with Nu Brown.

We need to pick our best 17.

Really don't see the point in having Holmes on the bench, from what Flanno has said it sounds like he will be one of the starting wingers with flash at fullback, can't see flanno putting beale in reserve grade, I think those three are guaranteed to start the year
Really can't see ricky making the squad, which is fine by me, I only see him as a decent back up player

Ok I'll try again at my 1-5

Gordon
Holmes
Beale
Leutele
Gagan

That's a nice back line but Feki misses out. If he's chosen then Gagan misses out.
At least with either of those line ups Ayshford and Brown miss out.

I still have this horrible feeling that either Ayshford and Brown will make it. Did they play tonight?

Flanno hasn't said anything about feki moving to the centres has he ? So it's one of feki or gagan missing out possibly with Beale and either Leutele, Ayshford or Bird in the centres. Dunno really.

It's harsh on feki if he misses out but I think Gagan and Holmes offer more to the team. Gagan looks a really natural finisher with a good leap and Holmes is likely to be a future superstar, that's why i'd like to see Feki in the centres as he deserves a spot over Leutele or Ayshford.
But as I said in my above post nothing has been said about feki moving into the centres.

havent seen anything, I think gagen will miss out which is a shame
It's a shame, but no doubt he'll get a chance. First one in if there's an injury.

Feki is a beast, first winger picked imo. Had barely any ball from his centre last year yet also looked real good, strong out of dummy half as well. Obviously it'd solve problems if he's picked centre, but our coach is Flanno after all so the chances of that happening are pretty...

Yes you're right mate and I think he'll be picked on the wing or not at all.
From all the talk we've heard and assuming no injuries besides Nu or Lewis (have heard he's in serious doubt) here is a first round team of mine. These are only what I believe to be automatic selections. Fill in the blanks if you can.

Gordon
Holmes
Beale

Barba
Robson
A Fifita
Ennis

Graham
Gallen (I don't believe he'll be selected at prop first up.)

What abt

1 Gordon
2 Holmes
3 Beale
4 Feki
5 Gagan

17. Bird

That way Bird can be used either as a back or 2nd row as needed.

It's a good problem to have for a change.

Scores in trials can certainly be misleading, with many at the Sharks sporting smiles at the full time siren despite the final tally favouring their opponents.

After 80 minutes had elapsed the Sharks were beaten 42-22 by Manly, however it was about a half an hour of quality football that had coach Shane Flanagan and those in senior playing group very satisfied watching from the stands.

After Manly had run up a 30-6 half time lead when both teams had second string lineups on the paddock, the Sharks unleashed the likes of Barba, Gordon, Robson, Tupou and Manly Lyons, Stewart, Cherry-Evans and Ballin, when the whistle blew to start the second half.

The match picked up a notch in speed and it would be the Sharks who took the upper hand.

They first crossed through a try to Jacob Gagan after the young winger leapt high above his opposite number to grab a Jeff Robson cross field kick.

Then somewhat against the run of play it was that man Gagan again in the thick of the action when he jumped on a Manly grubber kick, beat a couple of defenders then won a 65-metre foot race to the try line.

Gordon kicked the conversion and the Sharks led 10-0 in the second period.

The Sharks would add to their lead shortly after, this time through some brilliant play from Ben Barba and Anthony Tupou, with Gordon capitalizing with a try adjacent to the posts.

Again Gordon added the extras, making the second half score 16-0 Sharks and 30-22 overall.

Coach Flanagan had seen enough of his leading lights shortly after the resumption of the final quarter, with Barba, Gordon, Robson and Tupou heading from the field and into an early shower.

In the first half of the match the Sharks try came after a strong charge from Jets forward Leonati Feiloakitau, with the big back rower running onto a well-time Jaden Clarke pass before dashing 40 metres to score an impressive four-pointer.

While the Sharks had a side with limited NRL experience on the paddock in the first half, the Manly squad included the likes of Willie Mason, Feleti Mateo and Luke Burgess, as the young Sharks, with at least 11 of the team from NSW Cup feeder club Newtown, found the challenge to be a difficult one.

While hard to single out individual performers in a match of this kind, the Sharks would certainly be happy with the effort put in by Barba in his first outing in Cronulla colours. The Robson-Barba combination worked well in a good sign for the season ahead.

Also standing out was Tupou who showed the benefits of a injury-free off-season with an enterprising display.

The only negatives on the night surrounded hamstring injuries to Bukuya and Gagan. The pair will have scans in the coming days however the early diagnosis is that neither injury is of a serious nature and both should be back on deck in advance of the teams’ season opener on March 8.
