Statistical Comparison of Toby Rudolf 2020 vs 2021

Most (possibly all) posters think that Toby was better in 2020. Here is a look at both seasons.

Short version for egg = play Toby for ~40 minutes.

**

As we are all aware, his minutes went up.

With the extra minutes, his defensive work rate and tackle efficiency were similar.

...and when his minutes were kept to a reasonable amount he was equally as effective as the previous year. Once he started playing longer minutes he dropped off (which is understandable).

When Toby played longer minutes, the team struggled.

...but in 2020 when his minutes were limited he was a beast. It is not even close.

So Toby was better in 2020, but only because he played less minutes. Attack-wise he was still good when playing less than 50 minutes in 2021, and in both years he was pretty much identical defensively. It just looks worse because he played more minutes and therefore had higher totals for tackles and missed tackles.

Same player performing the same in both years when used properly. Just struggled when trying to play too much.
Really interesting, Cheers Burgo. And obviously 100% accurate, especially around him being best off the bench... And not even because I've been saying that for ages 😏

The way Toby answered the question in yesterday’s interview pretty much confirmed he is starting, along with saying we have Tieg there to cover Graham being out and will do a good job likewise.

bring Tobious on from the bench - start with the Toll Mang & BHU (has shown can be a good starter in the past)

If Toby starts I hope his minutes are reduced cause his performance can fall off a cliff

Rudolf is going pretty well this year

less minutes, more intensity , his output has improved and it seems the errors have reduced alot.

Hannay & Morris almost ruined him

Been really impressed by him this year. Prop is definitely his spot.
Same. Seems a bit different to last year. Way more professional and a lot more focused. Would be looking to take that leadership role on ASAP IMO. Is getting quite the apprenticeship in footy with the company he is keeping

agree with you gumby & Tatus, he has flown under the radar this season in comparison to his other forwards who are featuring on the highlights reels but Toby is going well, massive improvement on last season and I was a critic of his coming into 2022. Happy to keep starting and playing him how we are.

He is making good tackles and runs and cutting out the nonsesne ill discipline and mistakes

I wanted Tolman starting orginally but I must say he has been rock solid from the bench and covers for Dale getting a breather, keeping our defense around the ruck and in the middle tight.

It’s ok bro I accept your apology about Tolman starting over Toby
