I would have liked it if Toby came out and said he doesn't want to go to Vegas, but wants to concentrate on rehab instead etc.
Agree, it's not the best attitude.
But you know he'd be lying, and on a 16 week rehab he'd actually be done or basically done that week (depending on exact surgery date) - be entering 100% training either over there or next week back.
If he is on target or better with rehab I don't think going would be a big issue at all.
Whether coach wants to take an injured player or not is another question.

(edit: based on what Punisher said he'd be approx 14 weeks through recovery at point they flew out, so 2 weeks short of being cleared for 100% return if on target - his 4 months is up a few days short of round 2. It's entirely possible going to vegas would have no concerns from medical team... I guess medical team may have ****ed up initial assessment though so other question is if we trust them...
But yes, I'd have preferred an answer like I just need to focus on my rehab and hopefully if everything is on schedule I'd love to still go with the team)

Find me a 28-year-old single dude guy who wouldn't jump at a free trip to Vegas with his mates. I have doubts that there is any player in the NRL who wouldn't prefer to be taken along. Toby might just be one of the few who are honest about it, and I love him for that. It's so much better than hearing the same cliche crap.

That's fair and I agree.

He needs to worry about getting fit before anything else. As one of our better paid players that's missed a bit of footy he needs to be focusing on getting back on the field, not traveling halfway around the world to party during the season.

Do you really think he is/will be focusing on getting to Vegas rather than his rehab? I have no doubt between him and our medical team he will be fully focused on his rehab. He just seems more comfortable making jokes than talking seriously on camera.

No. I'm saying rather than being away for a week or longer, getting on the piss, I'd rather he stay behind, with any other injured player, and work on getting closer to playing.

Yeah fair enough, and I'd imagine the rehab guys will have some input into this part. I don't have any issue with Toby saying he wants to go though.

If he's behind on his rehab I can't imagine they take him - if they think last couple weeks of rehab if on target would be fine it (which I'd assume so) it could actually be a good motivator to make sure he does as told.

It may not even be our decision. NRL could allocate funds for whoever is in the available playing group. I can't imagine them dishing out flights and accommodation to everyone who's injured just for fun.

The rest of the Rugby League world seems to think the travel isn't great for teams... I get it's the truth, but really, he needs to be fit and fresh. His spot is under serious threat.

Why would they pay for flights and accommodation for an injured player? Did any injured players travel over last year? Something I didn’t pay attention to, maybe 1 of you did. Injured players rarely travel to away games. Toby is dreaming, as usual.

No way in the world will Fitz be letting him get on the wheat smoothies full stop, and I doubt that we carry a player in rehab in a junket to Vegas
