did anyone else notice that all 3 grades this weekend have teams 1,2,3 & 6 from regular season playing off for the GF. I wonder if this is a coincidence or a reflection of the mcintyre system...

its great that there are teams outside the top 4 still involved and i'm a believer in a top 8 system.. its just an interesting event that all 3 grades are the same and a therefore a discussion point on whether it's a coincidence or something else, not a negative comment on the mcintyre system..

It's a coincidence.

This. There are several paths that those teams can take.

... but I still don't agree that the Warriors should be able to finish 6th, turn out a performance like that and still have a shot.

possibly 4 v 5 is the hardest game of the 1st round of semi's and they are spent for their next games. has anybody won the GF from 4 or 5 since it was a top 8?
i'd imagine same theory would exist under a different system where top 4 play each other, so again this isn't a comment on the system. probably more that it may be beneficial to come 6th for some reason if you can't make top 2

Tigers from 4th in 2005. They played the Cowboys (5th) in the first round and the GF.

Roosters in 2002 from 4th.

No team from 5-8 has won the comp.

If you think about it, the fact that the top 3 teams are still around isn't that weird.

It's that the fourth spot in the finals is made up by the 6th team in all grades.

But I guess that's not statistically crazy or anything.

The Tigs finish 4th and win their semi. Beating the reigning premiers.
The Warriors finsh 6th and lose their semi.

Yet... the Tigs found themselves in exactly the same situation as the warriors. In sudden elimination.
And are now gone.

Who is this MacIntyre Clown and what does he know about footy?

I was thinking the same but it's hyperthetical as the Warriors took the chance of being eliminated in the first round had results not gone their way.

But the chance of 2 teams higher than them losing in the 1st week was slim. I still don't like how come second round the Tigers and Warriors were treated pretty much as equals despite the Tigers getting the "home ground" in Sydney and had won the week before.

It's a flawed system with good and bad.

In any case I was glad to see the NRL darlings, the Tigers get their just desserts. The refs gave them the rub of the green for weeks on end, even in the Warriors game they got a better deal than the Warriors.

On the other hand it is a shame to lose an exciting attacking team from the playoffs.

I sense Snowman lurking and about to impose his "lose and your out" sensibilties on this thread.

The reward the Tigers got for winning in the first round is to play a team that got flogged in the first round and finished below them on the ladder.

It is their own fault they couldn't get the job done.
