Nice, ive heard good things about the 350d, the new 400d is meant to be heaps good. Yeah the argument between canon and nikon is easily solved, Canon is better.lol do you shoot any football for this site.

the 350 is alright, but I don't really like the lenses that came with it. (stock 17-55mm, plus a 75-300mm - really slow AF, not that sharp.) I mainly use a 50mm f/1.8 lens - I think it's the cheapest lens that Canon sell, but it works a treat!

I haven't shot any footy shots - a member called 'our footy' does a lot of that. I mainly shoot landscapes (sunrises and stuff) when I'm up the coast on holidays.

ah okay kewl, the 50mm f1.8 would be good for landscapes etc, clear shots.
i was thinking of getting one of them soon or a fish eye, but they cost a bomb.

oh, I actually still use the 17-55 for landscapes, for width. It's not all that bad at f/11 ... I use the 50mm for shots of my daughter and stuff. It's pretty sharp when you're standing across the room, but the focus goes soft and fuzzy when you're trying to get close ups.

A fish eye would be fun, but I just can't justify the cost, seeing as it's not really an everyday lens. Maybe a 10-22 for nice wide landscapes.

Bloody oath, for the price of it, it works rather well, i use to hate it truth be told focused more on the bigger focal length lenses, now im addicted to thing, ive used the 17 to 55mm had the original one on my film camera a few years back, def worth upgrading, if you use the lens a lot or its your main lens def upgrade to 17 to 85

haha its a different kind of english, lol

yeah, lots of jargon.

I can get the 17-85mm for $600 from a contact in Hong Kong. I got a wireless flash transmitter (normal retail price in aus = $440) for $170 from there. The only problem was that I can't read cantonese, so the manual was useless to me!

found the english manual on google though!

I can get the 17to 85mm for 660, might be cheaper after the import costs etc than the one from hong kong.

from aus?

buying from hong kong, I have to factor in the possiblity that customs might have a look at the package and decide to charge me GST on it, but if they don't check, then I don't pay. I'd have to add on postage and handling though.

Canon 350D = a digital SLR (single lens reflex) camera. You can change the lenses on these cameras to suit what you're taking a photo of.

17-55mm = the lens that comes with the camera, with a zoom range of 17mm (wide angle) to 55mm (sort of zoom, but not very long zoom). good for landscapes and just any other general photos.

75-300mm = another lens that comes with the 350D, this is a zoom lens. Good for taking photos of footy, surfing and tennis.

50mm f/1.8 = a cheap little lens that doesn't zoom in or out, but is REALLY good for getting nice portrait photos. the f/1.8 refers to the aperture setting, which is basically how much light the lens allows to get to the sensor. (the bit with the megapixels)

17-85mm = the lens that I want. much better quality glass and build quality than the 17-55. It has IS, which is Image Stabilisation, which helps to reduce camera shake when you're taking photos in low-light situations without using a flash.

Understand now?
