Only top fullback off contract this year is Rapana. Off contract next year is Walsh, Gutherson, Tedesco, Papenhauzen, Klokstad who will all most likely re-sign with their clubs. The others are already locked up, Fidau, Brimson, Drinkwater, Edwards, Ponga.

If no elite full back, should we get some one with big game experience in the halves. Off contract this year, Foran, Townsend and Johnson. Off contract next year DCE, Reynolds, C.Walker, Sezer and Keary.

I wouldnt mind keary even though he's had history of concussion, he's been really good this season since moving to 7 and running the show with walker out
The only ones on that list I'd be interested in are Papi, Gutho Walsh, SJ, DCE and Arey. The final 4 of those are no chance of leaving their clubs though.

For me, we aren't desperate enough to be going hard for just anyone. It would have to be the right piece at the right time, otherwise you back the development process.

The two main targets I think are possible would be Papi and Hunt. Both are experienced enough to instantly lift the side.

IMO no chance Walsh, Gutho, Papi or CNK leave... And not sure we really want an aging Rapana or Teddy.

Halves just as dire. Sezer probably the one who is getable as he's the odd man out at the Tigers.

Develop our own or steal someone else's up and comer probably best bet.

I can still see Papi leaving because they've got Fa'alogo who wont depose Warbrick or Coates on a wing.
If Papi signs, then we should target Faalogo

Yep. They 100% have big plans for him. Paps may become like Nicho for them.
Yeah that's my thinking. Extending pap on 800k doesn't make a heap of sense at that point. Particularly because Melbournes biggest struggles have been through the middle the last few years, so that cash could upgrade them there.

We’ve had 3 pages of discussion about which basket to put our eggs in, when we all know it shouldn’t go in to one.

NRL contracts can be fickle. You never know when a star player is going to get homesick, shag his teammate’s girlfriend or get drunk and take a dump on the CEO’s front lawn. Teams need to build from within but also give themselves the cap flexibility to jump on opportunities.

Form the 2016 team Barba, Townsend, Ennis, Lewis and Taga all broke contracts elsewhere to come to the Sharks.

Agree. It's why I don't particularly like long contracts, it's all in the player's favour really. If they want to get out of it they mostly* do, if they turn to **** you're stuck with them.

*Hunt not being released was in the minority

Long contracts really are just a cap management tool. You are either overpaying a young guy early with the hope that by the final years it is team friendly (Faalongo) or you are underpaying a star in his prime now at the expense of him being overpaid later on (JT3).

It should work like that anyway… but as you said the way it seems to go is that any time the team made a good call on the young guy and saved themselves money the player wants out because he is “worth more”.

I guess the trick is to target the other teams players that fit into this category.

They feel under appreciated by their current club so you can sneak in and pinch them away after said current club has done all the development (kinda like what might be happening with Iro - but hopefully not).

Re Kennedy, Voss said during the telecast at some point during the first half that "Kennedy might not play representative football anytime soon or ever, but Cronulla wouldn't swap him for anyone."
It made me laugh real hard in light of this forum's recent discussion. :ROFLMAO:
