Carrying a fullback that is merely above average is also a risk. The way Kennedy defends it's like he's injured every week anyway

Paps would transform our team

Paps is probably on double what Kennedy is on.

Close too. 800k for paps, 450-500 for kennedy if reports are to be believed.

You have to pay up for the better players though, I believe paps is worth that much more.
To gets Papps we would have to lose Will (that’s a given) but also probably Williams (to pay for him) and then another 300-400k player to then recruit 2 minimum wage (or close to) players to make up your 30 player roster

So chasing Papps at the moment might make our squad weaker overall.

Well he's not off contract till 2026, so you have a bit more flexibility.

I do agree you'd probably have to shed something though, but that's kinda the point. At the moment we have great depth, but the best 17 are debatable as to whether they are good enough to win a comp. I'd be prepared to lose some depth to get in another star.

If you could do it via a move such as:
Ramien/Sifa - Iro
Katoa - Stonestreet
Kafusi - Colquhoun
Hunt - Tuks

I think the overall top squad takes a step forward by bringing in Papenhauzen.

Whilst agreeing might be a step forward if he is on the paddock…..if he is out injured which is a distinct possibility given his consistent injuries over the last couple of years it’s a significant step backwards.

Dont think they necessarily need paps but would be happy for a strong defensive fullback. Offensively I think most fullbacks would would go well in the current team setup.

100% agree. I've said it many times before, we have too many middle of the road players and not enough elite players.

No need, , the Papsmear will always be regularly unavailable. Steady as she goes, we building nicely, Tigers and others have picked up/nurtured young FB's, also no need to break the bank while WK on the rise.
Is WK.still on the rise? Not being a smart arse, serious question?

For mine no….

People will say his defense is better, but it’s still below average and whether it’s the team or not his attack is definitely less noticeable.

Yeah I think he's great for what we pay, but I don't think he's got the elite speed, strength or ticker to be an elite FB. Can't see him developing any of those things either.

Agree. I think where he is now is where he'll stay. We need more medium to long term.

2021-23 (Edwards)
2020 (Papenhuyzen)
2018-19 (Tedesco)
2017 (Slater)
2016 (Barba)
2015 (Coote… but they had Thurston as HB)
2014 (Inglis)
2013 (Minichello)
2012 (Slater)
2011 ( Stewart)
2010 (Boyd)

So on so on…

History would suggest that you don’t win comps without an elite full back. Kennedy is in the mid to low tier of fullbacks.

I think your all being a bit harsh, I think he suits this team to a tea and at his price in a salary cap era, thats like gold, we can’t have big money stars in every spot.

But thats ok, I don’t feel strongly enough to push back any harder on this and am happy to agree to disagree.

How many of those teams didn’t have sub-mid (for the year) in one of their spine spots though?
Storm come to mind.
