He did these things all year, whether Kennedy was out or not. E.g. Wilton's tries against Parra and Manly both came from Hynes playing out the back on the left side of the field. Also in the Dragons game early on their created chances on both side of the field with Hynes outside Moylan.

The jersey means bugger all. Fitz already has him playing this way.
Yeah, it's just when he's first reciever tries to do too much every play and can be frantic, starves Moylans side of the ball at times. I'm sure he'll learn from this year and choose his moments better. Still think him at 5-8 and a proper 7 has us going all the way
First year at Sharks Moylan was pretty competent.
We finished equal first (4th) with a halves duo of Townsend and Moylan.
Moylan was 6th overall for try assists, 4th overall for line break assists and only took the 30th most kicks (averaging 3 per game).
And touched the ball 46 times a game to Chads 49.

But then we signed Shaun Johnson because Val left and we moved Moylan to fullback and his legs fell apart.

This season Moylan was 45 touches a game, but Nicho is on ball much more than Chad was.
Moylan only had 12 TAs compared to 16 in same amount of games, and only 15 LBAs to 16.

Those numbers are much closer than I thought they would be and I'm not sure what to do with them.
Seems like Moylan looked good next to Chad but with close-ish to the same stats looks mediocre next to Nicho.
And we finished 2nd instead of 4th.

So Moylan was better in attack than controlling Chad was but we want controlling Chad back so that Nicho doesn't have to... be one of he best attacking players in the game who loves getting his hands on the ball...?
I like Moylan, he is a good 5-8 if he has a proper 7 who doesn't overplay their role, he was good with Chad and goes good with Trindall, they involve him more and play a more structured game.

The real problem here is that Nicho is the best first receiver and the best second receiver on the team. You can’t have him do both, so you feel like you are getting a watered-down version of whichever he doesn’t do, and you end up feeling like you have robbed Peter to pay Paul.

I actually have this exact problem with the best player in my team. Moved him from 7 to 6 one game because he is great at executing 3-on-2’s, then he never got the ball because now I didn’t have a 7 who can get quality ball to the 6. It’s soooo frustrating.

Winning the ruck and well-run decoys also goes a long way to getting that quality ball to outside runners. There was less of that in the back end of the year imo.

Also need to keep some Queenslanders. 2016 we had 5 in our GF team and another 4 or 5 in the squad.

Right now we have one Qld-born player (Berrell), plus Trindall and Ronnie. Jets had none, and outside of Rivett there are only a handful in Flegg and SG Ball combined.

get your hand off it, our best players in the 2016 GF were all from NSW

seems to be working pretty well for penrith being stacked with blues players too

Ronnie is great but it's irrelevant he is from QLD, he would put in whatever club he is at
He certainly alternated between first and second receiver - as all good halves do - but that's irrelevant. I think a lot of fans just have a way more rigid view of positions than what actually happens on the field. It's a division of labour, and it's different for every coach.

If one of your guys happens to be a game-manager with a small trick bag (e.g. Townsend, Robson, Sezer, Fogerty) you just divide the labour differently than you would otherwise. I certainly think it would be a mistake to have 2 guys like that, but that doesn't mean that the minimum is 1. Melbourne have 2 fullbacks in their halves and that seem to working out fine for them. The Roosters have 2 guys you'd probably describe as textbook five-eighths, and that works well because they have their lock do some of the micromanagement. For the Sharks, there seems to be a good division of labour across the 6, 9 and 13 for most things. The team definitely needs another kicking option though.

Probably the hardest thing is having your dynamic attacking player involved enough in the simple "get through your sets" stuff so he stays involved, but not bogging him down with too much. It's a really hard balance to find. When you have a player who is one of the best at both throwing passes and running on to them, you want him doing both those things consistently, but neither of them so much that he can't do the other.

thanks comrade

Hynes was so much better than Chad, Mozza didn't need to do as much but generally what he did was quality

Hynes doesn't need to worry about repeat sets when he is setting shits up for 4 pointers

We have a gun in the 7 and fans don't even relise it

Nicho is a weapon, sort out our FB and hooker and we will carve shits up every other week

I don’t think it makes the team better having Qlders. I just like it. The Sharks in the past have always been able to recruit from Qld and do well with some guys who come down. It seems like there has been a bit more of a move towards NZ players and local guys in the last few years, but they are bringing down a few more for SG Ball next year, so it looks like they are scouting from Qld again.

I like that they are looking at talent up here, especially guys like Rivett and Te Kani who the local NRL teams didn’t think were good enough to bother with. I would love nothing more than Rivett ending up better than Weaver, and it makes me proud to be a Sharks fan that they are a club who will give these types of players opportunities.

We need someone that can help us finish the 5th play well.. our last tackle options this year was bad very bad ; this is where Hynes gets added pressure and Moylan becomes almost a liability, every set we have this is an issue we need to cross and if we’ve just had Hynes run on the 4th or set something up on the other side of the field on the 3rd or whatever best believe Hynes knows he’s got to be present also on the 5th to finish it off.

This becomes even more evident when we play teams that shut us down and our eyes up style turns to rubbish because we have no structure or if we do we are not very good at executing it as both Moylan and Hynes are instinctive ; go ahead and watch our finals games and see how side to side and aimless we are.

Sure we want Hynes on the ball often but at what cost ? when it becomes too much and he becomes sloppy and makes mistakes like many games we’ve seen this year that point becomes redundant because clearly he’s doing too much

If Moylan isn’t going to help take that load off effectively he better be working on becoming a better organiser, runner and working on ways to kick less like a donkey

Why is it Moylan’s fault that the team doesn’t play as structured as they did under Flanno/Bomber?

This sounds a lot like “Chad it an idiot because he keeps kicking it to the same winger”.

If the team is doing something over and over, it’s what the coach wants. Don’t blame the player.

Could we start a Nicho isn't a halfback thread?
The rumour mill is starting to have an identity crisis.

Jeremiah Nanai signs 4 year deal with Cronulla, early release for 2023, sending Wade Graham to Cowboys
I like the idea that we send all our old boys to the Cowboys retirement home. Works for them and us.

I reckon it’s St George having a crack at Nanai.
Don’t see him going there but even for overs.

Not at the age Hunt is, take a couple years off Hunt and he could probably keep Nanai crossing the line plenty

Nanai can do some fantastic work off the halves but not sure he can be as impactful on the back foot or with worse ball and Dragons and their spine is a bit of a mess.
