No one could seriously expect the Roosters to not play Tedesco at FB - It would sound stupid to even ask

So Sualli may as well just leave now if he must be in the 1.

Teddy is the best in the game and not even 30 yet

Yeah he's got probably another three good years in him yet.

Suuaaiillii is going to be a deadset gun though, no doubt about it. He'll also go wherever the most money is I reckon, probably end up back in Yawnion.

Don’t get why more players / clubs don’t sign a contracts with their worth being X % of the salary cap.
I can't imagine clubs are too keen on it. Makes it harder to get a good deal doesn't it?

Found one example. Im not sure this is the one I was thinking of.

Manly 2018. API got injured.
Bloggs is Hastings. Nurk is Fainu.

Barrett asked for Fainu to come in. NRL said that both Hastings and Lewis Brown had hooker experience, so no go.

Manly ended up releasing Hastings a few weeks later to make room for Fainu.
Can you dig the article back up and check if Hastings and Brown were in the 13 or 17 or not? If they weren't already named in starting positions that could also make the circumstances different where Roosters couldn't possibly play Radley at hooker as he was already named to start in another position.

Barrett submitted a team list at the start of the week with Fainu as #9. The NRL rejected it. Nobody wore #9 in the game. Matt Wright ended up starting at hooker.

Following week was rep round. The Tuesday morning after that they released Hastings and Fainu was added to the top 30 in his place.

Two more...

Tom Starling was given dispensation to debut for Canberra in 2019 despite not even being a dev player. He was contracted to Mounties. Raiders had Havili but no other hookers, and Sticky argued that it wasn't fair for Havili to be expected to play 80. He was then given a dev contract and was allowed to play.

Jakob Arthur in 2021. They named him in the team at 6 when he was a dev player. The NRL rejected it because Parra had Jordan Rankin in their top 30. The Eels upgraded Arthur so he could play.

I'd like to read about this Radley one, because they have been pretty consistent with it from what I have seen. So you're saying Radley and a hooker were both named, and then the hooker pulled out mid-week? Maybe they got permission to bring in a hooker based on the team having started preparing for the game.

OK. Found your Radley one.

It was Verrills in 2019.

Friend was out for a while. Radley was playing hooker, but Verrills was allowed to play 6 games in Friend's absence, mostly off the bench. So this one is the same as Havili/Starling. When Friend returned, the Roosters upgraded Verrills to top 30 so he could stay in the team and Radley could move back to lock.

You might say it worked out well for them, given he scored in the GF.

Maybe what you are remembering is the first week when friend was out injured and they let Verrills play. Possibly Friend was named and then withdrew??

I’ve just had another look and can’t find anything. Roosters get a lot of exemption and exceptions I guess.
It wasn’t a big story at the time as I recall and pretty minor in scheme of things, I just thought I remembered previous example of someone not having to move positions within the 13 to cover

Oh - thought it was his agent. Cheers. Is that bloke close to him though, or just some guy who used to know him?

He was when he was a teenager, was one of the main reasons he ended up at south's. Not sure if that's still the case.

I'd have him back, dont recall him letting us down. Bit of a Missi Talapapa was it, somewhat versatile player for injuries, type.
Think the vibe with Nu was he just didn't wanna put any effort in and loved to cut corners. Finally seems to have clicked for him.
