On Metclalf to Warriors Backflip - Crazy to think that a player hasn't gone to their current club and exhausted all avenues before entertaining another deal - especially with the warriors considering all of their travel/living complications over the past 18 months.
Yep definitely an odd choice of club given not even clear if he has to try and move countries or not which you'd think would be a big question mark for a young bloke in covid times. Hence why I think he must believe he is a much stronger candidate to start there than here, but even then what is the rush to sign unless deal way too good to refuse.

Makes much more sense if not actually a done deal (almost instantly after the anti tampering deadline passed)

As for Moylan re-signing - while it may suck, it was done when Johnson was being a pork chop, and Trindall hadn't had a real crack in the seven. I understand this decision at the time... with the benefit of hindsight (Seeing more of Trindall and Metcalf) it may not have been necessary. Then again, a halves group of Trindall, Metcalf, Hynes isn't a lot of experience.
Throw in that while we the people aren't super keen on Moylan due to the amount he has burned us he has put some good games together (when healthy) and I think a lot of people on here probably feel we paid what we did despite him having no other offers however people used to do the same about Chad who himself said he did have other offers.
And as much as people would like to call him a liar I think the Cowboys overpay and Warriors move suggests there is some interest in Chad.

I can definitely see why there may have been a feeling at the time we need to keep one of the three senior halves and paid what we needed to.
Moylan does have the capacity to be a very good 350k player.... if he stays healthy...

How about 450k?

Sure, he is definitely talented enough to be a very good 450k player too. Not sure where I'd draw the line and don't want to guess at every number between $120k and$1.2mil

Easier just to work off the commonly agreed figure

Zero Tackle: 350k
Daily Tele: 340-350k
The Roar: his one-year deal reportedly includes a massive pay cut from his current $850,000 a year salary.
Fox Sports: 350k

I think this had a lot to do with Moylan staying. And Moylan isn't on marquee money, so it looks like we have a bunch of potentially good young halves to compete for Moylan's spot in 2023 while getting the benefit of his experience (think what you will about his ability on/to get on the field, all reports are he is fantastic off it)... or enough money to snap up a superstar when the time is right. If the Warriors gave Metcalf a much clearer plan to lock down a first grade spot, then more power to the kids for showing the cajones to go for it.

Is there really a clear path for Metcalf to get a regular first grade spot here? Where would be the kicking game in a Hynes/Metcalf halves combo? They’re both runners, neither Metcalf or Hynes have shown any kind of kicking game. It would have similar issues as a Moylan/Hynes combo. To me its an unbalanced pairing. As for the utility spot, where would he get his minutes? McInnes and Brailey are probably going to be sharing the hooking duties, plus with Ikavulu joining, Tracey is a chance of returning to the bench.

Whereas at the Warriors they’ve pretty much pencilled him at 5/8th alongside Johnson in 2023, all the noise out of the club is that they’re moving CHT on at the end of the year, plus O’Sullivan is already gone.

I actually dont blame him for making the move, as disappointing as it is.

I agree with you on all of this re: Metcalf. Personally I don't even see him as a utility tbh. I just see him as a "chuck him out there against tired players to see what happens" type of player.

Hynes has a kicking game though. The guy played 2 years of NYC and 2.5 seasons of Q Cup footy in the halves before they switched him to fullback. That is more experience than Trindall has.

That he didn't use it in Melbourne is not really an issue. They had their game plan and he didn't need to kick.

The few kicks I saw Metcalf do looked pretty good to me (desperate chips not included). Maybe he just got lucky I guess but I thought he looked like he had a decent accurate boot.

Potentially not a dumb move at all, I just think the timing is weird as theoretically once season is underway his value shouldn't go down only up, unless he is planning to suck in reserve grade and any NRL chances he gets.
Plus in the meantime he gains way more information about what his fit opportunities are at different clubs.

Scorpion kicks give a different perception but apparently CHT strength is his game management so could actually be a very strong partner for SJ which would make Warriors an iffy move, unless he planned to wait another year behind SJ.

He's not a 'utility' at all from what I have seen. Just a Pap style put the skinny fast kid on late and hope something happens.
Works better when you are top of the ladder than the middle or bottom.

Seen B Smith having a late snack this afternoon with Tino and D Fifita in Robina. He met with the Titans this morning. Rumour is 900 a year across 4 years.

They've got CHT, Johnson and Ash Taylor on a train and trial deal. I don't think his path to first grade is much clearer at the warriors.

While I think he is a talent, and it sucks losing guys with a bit of flair, he's not in my top 17.

And he's not due to go there for a while, a lot can change in that time.

Look at Moylan, was brought here to play in the halves initially but spent time at FB.

CHT is testing the market and likely to leave, Ash Taylor wont be there longer than a year. Walsh will go to 6 and Metcalf to 1.

Dogs have tabled a 4 year deal at 650k per year for Mahoney.

Curtis Scott signs 1 year with Parra.
