Lodge and Vaughan would be an upgrade on Tolman and Fifita thou

Tolman? You can't upgrade on perfection my friend

Not sure if this has been mentioned. From the Greenhouse and apparently DT: https://thegh.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=35141

There was strong talk he was headed to the Dogs and I don't think dogs would have be stingy with the $$. Wonder if the last week and all the Barret / club drama got him over the line with the Raiders ? Good luck to him under the Stick

Still not sure how I feel about 16 years olds being allowed to sign bumper contracts - can't imagine too many other sports allow it to happen?

Pretty sure in european soccer for instance 16 year olds are given contracts that would rival the biggest contracts of NRL players. It makes sense to secure them in your system and culture early, as long as they have someone to manage their finances/pressure ect. responsibly

That's just morally reprehensible mate, why does the NRL care?
There's a pretty blatant scale of wrong in the NRL's eyes that goes like:
Did bad stuff but it wasn't really perceived as related to the great game - slap on the wrist, a few tsk's and a please don't do it again.
Did bad stuff that made the game and it's management look bad directly - exiled for life where possible.

Lodge is lucky he didn't call someone a 'bunch of burning sticks' . Sporting bodies are really hard on that sort of thing these days

But yea threatining the lives of innocent people and indimidating them through violence isn't a hate crime or something, just a misunderstanding

Agreed but feels like a few are slipping through the net at the moment, at least rumoured to be. Metcalf, Dykes, Pele, Chevy, etc.

We have gotten upset about this sort of thing in the past in regards to young sharks players but the club is usually validated in regards to who they let go and who they keep.

having said that it's still a bit concerning, what is our plan for the future? are we just gunna back a different crop of youngsters or hope to find something special externally on the market?

.

Certainly nobody thinks that was what was meant by the words but also Lodge was out of NRL for two full seasons…

Would anyone take Jock Madden from the Tigers? Still unproven but looks pretty handy, and wants out with Hastings/Brooks/Doueihi all ahead of him.

Could be a cheap alternative if Moylan is asking for too much, and he and Trindall could keep the pressure on each other.

Could use the depth, no doubt

His name came up here a couple of weeks ago. Forum seems to be split on him. Personally I like him, but he’s got some holes in his game.

He looked NSW Cup quality playing halfback while Hastings was out. Dummies and goes himself, dummies and goes himself, dummies and goes himself. As depth, sure.

No to Madden, had a lot of media talk up for the past 18 months, from what I’ve seen, he’s a toiler with glimpses of good stuff but just much glimpses of brain explosions

This has been his go since he was young. He’s Shaun Berrigan 2.0. Will be a solid NRL player for many years but is not a 7.

Lodge I'd take for rest of this season but wouldn't be overly happy to sign him properly. On a moral scale he is much worse than Vaughan.

Vaughan endangered the whole NRL is direct opposition to what NRL was saying but also very specifically what his coach told him earlier that day.
Not worse from a moral or legal stand point but 'worse' from an NRL/club standpoint. He has made himself untrustworthy to clubs.
Spraying the media when told to keep his mouth shut is minimal but just doubles down on what got him sacked in the first place. He may not be a criminal but in the eyes of NRL clubs he's a bad clubman.

I don't think anyone would call it 'worse' than Lodge, but it is a very very different circumstance.

NRL let him serve his suspension while not contracted and let him sign with new club, they aren't stopping him doing anything.
Clubs don't want him because he refuses to listen to their directives. You can't build a reputation for ignoring coach/club directives and then be surprised when coaches/clubs don't want you.
This is my issue with Vaughn. His attitude to the people who pay him and play with him. I'd take Lodge over Vaughn because I think Lodge is a reformed ********, but Vaughn hasn't learnt a thing in my opinion. I also think on the filed this year, Lodge is twice the player Vaughn is.

Mate - what he did in the USA was disgraceful..
I agree, but what's he done since? he paid those folks a lot of money in a civil claim, and the courts issued judgement on him. Since then he's done nothing but work hard as far as I can tell. Hasn't he paid the price or is he damned forever? Don't get me wrong I'm not advocating we sign him, but he's a far better human than a lot of league players who have gone through the courts and pleaded total innocence, when clearly they're guilty of something.

He's a bit of a **** on the field but so are many other 'hardmen'
Think him and Bird had a bit of a blue on the drink while at Brisbane if I recall but we know Birdy can be a bit of a tosser too so wouldn't massively hold that against him.

What he did far far worse than anything Vaughan has done, but also very different to try and compare in terms of how you assess them both now.
I wouldn't be upset to keep having neither.
