I've seen Rivett play a few games in Jersey Flegg this year. He goes alright but I don't see anything special in him - yet. Seems like he can organise, his kicking game is OK but his defence seems a little shaky.
there is nothing in rivett to get excited about

How boring is the NRL media getting? NRL 360 airs and 10 articles are written quoting the thoughts of journos/managers with self-inflated egos and individual agendas.
Mate it's ridiculous. But they keep doing it as it must result in more clicks or more papers being sold. Otherwise there'd be no point.

Yep. I don't watch the crap on NRL 360 so I sure as **** don't want to read about it.

Yeah agreed. Nick Campton has moved to ABC and has been writing some good stuff. Just wish there were a lot more like him out there to balance out the landscape a bit.

We should be all over it. Sign him in his best position - centre.
Burton probably doesn't care where he plays, as long as he's paid as a 5/8th. He'll be a very expensive centre.

Don't get me wrong, I'd take him in a heartbeat. But is it a good sign a player potentially might want out after less than half a season?

Can’t really blame him though with the shambles the bulldogs are in and will continue to be in.

Does he really want out though? Only he knows... but you can bet his manager is angling for an extension and more dollars, so the occasional story about him testing the market from November 1 keeps getting floated.

Dunno. Probably just the media putting 1 and 1 together and getting 3.

Foxt sports News is 90% based on NRL 360
Shows should be restricted to ex footballers IMO
How the likes of Hooper and Buzz are on tv I have no idea.

It's obscene the NRL journalism scene generates at least 50% of it's own content, some weeks more if not much else going on.

Seems like the average rugby league story goes...

  • Something happens (or is rumoured to have happened)
  • Media write an article
  • Media talk about their own article on a show
  • Media write an article quoting themselves/each other talking about it on show
  • Media write a follow up article where the player is forced to deny it or coach responds or whatever because it has gathered so much (self generated) momentum
  • Potentially good for another couple of articles as they refute the response or respond to the response with their own opinion
You could watch a panel show and read 5 articles about something and have about 1% more information by the end of it.

Entitled "player/coach breaks silence about x". As though every useless comment they make should be responded to.

Agree, this is the reason I don't watch any of the footy shows on Fox.

I can handle 100% Footy because whichever journo is on doesn't seem to overpower the show like on Fox.

Did you watch Gus on 100% Footy last week when Weidler asked him about Munster?

DW: my sources say the Bulldogs are talking to Munster, is that true?
Gus: who are these sources?
DW: I can't say.
Gus: You can't say because there aren't any, you're making it up in order to ask a question.

Good on him. The nrl media is a blight on the game. Is there any group that hates their own sport more than fox footy?

Ex-footy players on a talk show could get away with one of them just saying 'hey I was thinking Munster would be a really good target for the Bulldogs for these reasons...' and they could discuss it fine.
Because Weilder and the like think they are journalists they feel the need to act like they have some secret scoop for every bit of trash they want to talk about

"Sources close to the player say..."
As the 'journalist' who once personally stood near the player makes some bullshit up.
