Would be an odd move for him to tie himself to another club at this stage when he's likely to increase his value over the season.
Even odder to tie yourself to a club you don't even know where they will be based then (although NZ would be the assumption).
Less odd if he had a clear pathway to locking down a first grade spot. He's behind two young players with reasonable length contracts here. And Moylan for a year. He might not even get much footy next year to increase his value

Apologies
I did find this on FOX

“I think the Warriors would consider letting him go because they are looking to sign Luke Metcalf from Cronulla.

“Cronulla is digging in their heels so unless the Warriors get someone to replace Chanel they probably won’t let him go.”

It’s not against the rules for the Warriors to approach the Sharks. They just can’t negotiate with the player directly.

Are the Warriors really promising him a starting spot for 2022-23? Hard to hold him back if that's the case.

Fitz needs to tell him he's an equal shot at getting the 7 next year, and our first backup 1, 6 and 7 if he misses out.

I'm also happy for Moylan to play for the Jets and act as more of a mentor if it means keeping Metcalf on the bench (and in Cronulla).

Yeah for mine i see Metcalf in the 17. I would have him as the current 14 and then first drop starter if 1,6 or 7 injuried. If Fitz gets in the phone hopefully he could smooth out any issues if there are any.

Moylan is an injury prone hack who can be given to the warriors or can play in reserves, he brings too much inconsistency anyway.

its alot of money for a player to be a mentor or play for the jets, its a balls up we offered him a contract, i dont give a rats if it was for half of his previous contract, that contract was even more of a balls up.
At best, we should have offered a contract in similar terms to what Tigers have with Roberts, I'm not saying Metcalf is going to be a gun & no doubt the Warriors are probably going to pay on potential but we probably have sweet FA in terms of play money to be a chance of stopping him, that along with a roster spot or pecking order behind a guy who's played just over half of the possible games he could have played for us in his 4 season tenure with us.

I'm not going to cry too much if Metcalf goes, he has hardly proven he's going to be a superstar (yet) and a player we will regret losing from the limited games he has played.

In saying that I would like him to stick around so we can see if he's going to be special but Warriors are obviously desperate for halves and throwing good coin at him, maybe similar to what they did with Toby.

Cant blame him for wanting the money and a starting spot - something he needs to fight for here.

Not sure going to the Warriors is a smart decision though.

Easy to call it a balls up in hindsight. Nobody expected his legs to **** themselves, and in fact we had him as a decent and improving 5/8 and opted to move him to a different position to accommodate SJ. Moving him away from the position we bought him for also doesn't make the original contract a balls up.

You think at best we should have offered Moylan a train and trial deal? To start with he probably doesn't accept that which matters to the club if not to you but secondly he easily earns a contract (if he stays fit, and I realise that is an if) and then beats Metcalf for a jersey anyway.

And finally Fitz is a first year NRL coach, no way he runs a starting quality player in reserve grade just to try and retain a kid who has looked flashy a few times and achieved **** all. He's here to win games and win games now or risk negatively impacting his whole career.

Would be easy to swallow that pill if Moylan was performing as a “starting quality player” and at a level above Metcalf but going from last year that is debatable.

Metcalf still with plenty of headroom and Moylan getting worse.
