Who gives a toss about these articles.

Since when has the press gone out of its way to help the Sharks. Just refer back to the Greg Bird fiasco.

All Carney has to do is look his team mates in the eye and say to them have he will try his best. No contract will ever police anyone's conduct a 100%

This time around almost everyone has dismissed Carney and with a criminal record prohibiting a VISA to the UK, Carney doesn't need to be told what will happen to his life let alone his career if he gets shown the door at the Sharks.

So the Sharks give a kid a break and the media makes us out to be desperados'!

It didn't stop him ****in up at the Roosters though. That was meant to be his last chance as well. Now he reportedly has 5 clubs interested. Not that I think his behaviour at the Roosters was all that bad, but if he was genuinely worried about it, he would have been more careful.

At some stage in Carney's life he has to take some responsibility for his actions. If he does that Sharks can only benefit from that!!!

Not necessarily. There are plenty of blokes in their 60’s and 70’s that have been habitual **** ups.

Anyway, good luck to him.

Exactly. Only a few years ago Gallen was out pissing on people also.

Carney can sort his **** out, he just has to want to. He isnt an alcoholic. He's obviously a binge drinker. Like most of the people out age (im the same age) going out is a big part of life. Its sad, but that is the case these days. No longer is 24-25 the age people start thinking bout settling down, Ive got mates in their 30s still partying every weekend. I dont. Im the youngest in my group of mates, but I can say no to a beer, in fact, recent medical findings in my body do not allow me to drink

The reason why these articles are written the way they are because it's negative. 90% of the front page of the paper over the year has a negative based story. The more you react and read it the more papers they sell, the more they repeat the process. Simple way to fix it.........Stop reacting to the b******* and move on.

Exactly right. Stories that arent based on actual events (even then lack alot of truth) are mostly negative speculative stories. What any body would gain from writing or reading an article about where Todd Carney will get blotto next year is beyond me. He hasnt signed yet, he hasnt even made a peep about coming here, but the papers are all over it.

Rothfield is a fan, but puts dirt on us in the paper. People cant jump straight down his throat, remember its his job to write articles. Im sure he's written plenty of good Sharks articles over the year, which the paper has refused to print.

If Paul Gallen isn't a better quality player than Todd Carney ill eat my shoes. I would love for Gallen to ring them and quote the line to the author... he would poo his pants

While I ignore the crap they write in the fish and chip wrappers.

When the day comes, I wonder how many will try and jump on the band wagon. I wish to be there and push them off.

They are all a bunch of Nuppets

As a small time journalists myself it angers me that these type of so called journaists are termed with the heading of expert opinion. But being in the industry we all know one big rule, and thats usually the big name papers are always the last to find out gossip (especially in sport) and that they usually feed of smaller time papers.

Being in the industry for a couple of years has allowed me to attain a vast amount of contacts within sporting teams around sydney and i can assure you one thing, That these contacts absolutely hate getting outed by papers with news such as the nonsense above unless its concrete (and even then they hate it). So make no mistake when these expert opinion are being read remember thats all it is... an opinion from someone with the abillity to get to a broad audience

For rugby league i cant speak to much but in football your best bet for rumour or news is to always hit the industry specific paper and generally the one which is more community focused as they are liekly to have the best contacts within the area/sport. (believe it or not the stgeorge/sutherland leader would be your best bet for most accurate news, knowing first hand that they actually get passed on information from sources within local clubs)

Sharks on up-and-up

CRONULLA Sharks’ ‘‘punt’’ on adding Todd Carney to their 2012 NRL roster has already paid off — even before the player has signed. The club yesterday reported a
25 per cent increase in new memberships, a day before the Sharks’ new membership brochure had been sent out.

They are privately confident plans for their $300 million retail and property development will be approved by the state government next year, following changes made after months of consultation with various community groups.

And Sharks’ commercial general manager Peter Beaumont said the new membership interest so early in an off-season had developed for a number of reasons.

‘‘We have a good roster of new players already announced, and captain Paul Gallen’s signing for life was a definite spike for both renewals and new members,’’ he said.

‘‘The Members Jersey continues to be a growing success with 20 per cent of all members having ordered the jersey with their name appearing alongside players, staff and all other members.

‘‘Plus, fans realise they will see 12 home games at Toyota Stadium next year [the Sharks have abandoned the Taupo, New Zealand experiment of last season where they played the Warriors at Taupo].’’

Now, Sharks management expect another ‘‘spike’’ of new memberships once the agreement with the brilliant but wayward league star Todd Carney is signed off, later this week. Carney and his manager David Riolo are first expected to meet with NRL chief executive David Gallop, before a two-year deal is done.

Beaumont said the Sharks ‘‘greater player depth’’ had also interested new members.

The loss of props Luke Douglas (Titans) and Kade Snowden (Knights) should be covered by the acquisition of Wests Tigers pair Bryce Gibbs and Andrew Fifita, and ‘‘comeback-kid’’ Ben Ross, backed up by Jon Green (from Dragons) and Mark Taufua (from Knights), while Isaac De Gois’s return from Newcastle at hooker should add spark up the middle.

If Carney and new buy Jeff Robson (Parramatta) are the Sharks’ starting halves, then talented young players like Albert Kelly and Wade Graham will vie for a spot in the centres — a troublesome spot for several years at the Sharks — along with veterans Colin Best and Ben Pomeroy and youngsters Stewart Mills, Ricky Leutele and Matt Wright.

Cronulla has also extended the contract of goal kicking winger John Williams, 26, who impressed in his first season after leaving the Cowboys before an unfortunate leg injury in the middle of the season prevented him playing more than 13 games.

I think that's a bit of speculation as its going to be a long off season and they have a lot to work out I would say.
