How did Tieg avoid a HIA if Burgess had one ?

Often 1 player seems to come off far worse in a head clash - the bloke getting hit by the defender

Sometimes both players go down with some real nasty ones

Possibly the most ridiculous sinbin I've ever seen
Yep. I thought he was going to just put him on report, then to see him get sent to the bin.

But Nelson's elbow head slam the other week was ok.

MRC will follow up with teig
its the way of the NRL
Funny you should bring that up

“One of the reasons behind the success of the North Queensland Cowboys this season has been the team’s incredible discipline.

The records show they are the only club in the competition that hasn’t had a player suspended this year. It has meant that coach Todd Payten has had to use only 25 players this year, the least of any club.

The Cronulla Sharks have been the worst offenders with the match review committee. They’ve lost players for nine weeks.

Including such brutal moves as ‘accidental head clash’ and ‘accidental barely a hip drop’

That tackle was happening whether Laurie passed the ball or not. If he only dummies inside its pretty much the same result. The reason Laurie turns his body (exposing his back and ribs) like that is to make the defender lose sight of the ball and that exactly what happened. If Wilton buys a dummy Laurie goes straight through.

If you're going hard into the line isolating a defender and at the last moment turn your body and take away that defenders ability to see the ball then I'm not sure what other outcome there will be. That can't all be on the defender, if the league is going so hard on things that could ruffle the players feathers then maybe we've gotta start looking at whether the "victim" put themselves in a no-win situation. If the defenders only legal option is to not defend then how the **** do we play this game?

I have absolutely no idea how they ruled that as late. Their definition of late must be along the lines of "was contact made after the ball was released? If so, it's late" – that is the only explanation I can think of. It's a sad sad time in rugby league when being "forceful" in a tackle is a bad thing.

off the 'so called' late tackle topic
at one point in the game, Roberts made a break - I know he isn't the speedster he once was - but he was motoring. teig ran him down.
teig also had another run with the ball in which he really motored too.

I understand he can play centre. but we've had a few guys in this squad that cover a range of positions; sifa, connor, mcinness etc

good to have

Yeah I noticed that too. He's got some toe. He's got so much to like, gonna be a goodun. Time will tell how good but if all goes well he's got a huge ceiling. Only 22 & got a coach who knows a bit about being a top line backrower.

Elsewhere, Sharks forward Teig Wiltonfaces an $1,800 fine with an early guilty plea after he was charged with a Grade One Dangerous Contact offence in his side's win over Wests Tigers

Looks like it would be $2500 if he challenged and lost
