Yes, but when they build these grand stadiums the people will come, don't you see.

Apparently they want to have restaurants and stuff inside the stadium and that will apparently draw much bigger crowds. That is the theory. We are playing (taxpayers) a couple of billion dollars so we can dine at the ground, not get a better view.
They've got the....

If you build it. They will come!
**** the expense!

.....Attitude.

Don't worry, our new home ground in 10 years will be nice and close to the airport for you.

Seriously though, it really does boggle the mind.

What pisses me off amongst other things is seeing Alan Jones get his own way.

Disgusting waste of money.

I hear you, but if that happens I'll watch games from our Leagues club, or not come down at all.

They want a big stadium between the CBD and Western Sydney.

Rebuild ANZ, keep Parramatta Stadium bulldozed.

They want to keep a stadium close to the CBD.

Bulldoze Allianz, and build closer to the CBD.

This way they still get 2 shiny new stadiums.

The money they had for the Parra rebuild give it to the suburban grounds.

Sell the Moore Park site to the Swans to build their academy/centre for excellence

Yeah same. Would be far more convenient for me but the NRL can get ****ed when they inevitably move us.

We exist because we're a Shire team, with a good junior nursery - move it out of the Shire and we're as bad as the filthy merge...

I know I live in Brisbane now, but the Shire is my true home, always has been.

The Roosters, Dogs and Parra will be the only clubs with a home now.

Sydney Roosters, Sydney Bulldogs and Parra Whatever is very possible. The only fair outcome will be completely new and renamed clubs IMO.

I don't want any of this ****.

There is going to a public outcry. I've been chewing at people all day. Most people I know don't really watch sport and I've been telling anyone who will listen that they are going to knock down and rebuild these stadiums.

Non sports lovers are gong to be furious.

Why are they going to allow a grand final to be played in a stadium that can only hold 45k (the new SFS) when they could get 3 good years out of the SCG?

I know it only holds 3k extra but at least the sentimental value is there.

Oh and doesn't the SCG kinda suck for watching rugby league?

Can they actually stop us?

NRL can probably schedule games wherever they want.

The real threat is death relative starvation. Most Sydney Clubs are about to get $2b investment in to their grounds and we're not. WT, Canterbury, Souths, STI, Roosters, Parra are all going to have brand spanking new stadiums with all the bells and whistles. The suburban grounds will be loved but they won't give the same returns that the big ones do, which is why Clubs have already moved. Once game days don't actually suck at the big grounds, they'll be on a winner.

The interesting thing is the timing. I reckon the rush to knock down the SFS is because the powers that be are well aware that Foley and Labor would knock that proposal on the head quick smart. Its an easy $1b they could direct elsewhere in an election campaign. But knock the thing down pre-election and it probably has to be rebuilt.

Anyway. Stadiums rarely return the money invested (slide, did you post a link about this?). Waste of money. Amazing win for the NRL though. That's twice the current TV deal being pumped in to capital works.

Actually, the more I think about it, it is ****ing bonkers to put the bigger one out west. Sydney is such a broken city.

Hmmm... Not sure. I'd like to know what type of events they hope to get above what they can already accommodate (and win in a bidding process I guess). No way the cost would justify one or two shows though.

I'm pretty sure any bands could easily play at the current stadia, so that's out.

Any type of sporting World Cup isn't going to happen. And if they do get something like that, it'll be that far down the road that the staiums will be considered outdated again.

Well personally I'm looking forward to Sharks vs Cowboys at SFS on a Thursday night with 2,999 other people. At least the facilities will be top notch.
