Fanning retiring?

Yep. After Bells.

What a career though. 3 world titles. How many event wins? Even a win as a 19 year old wild card. Lost his brother when he was 16 who was a gun himself, then another brother just 2 years ago. The shark attack thing was a massive deal IMO. That was a big shark and for whatever reason it really musnt have been worried about him at all.

I dunno if anyone remember Fannings injury in 2005 where he tore his hamstring completely off the bone and initial diagnosis was he may not walk again, let alone surf. To come back and win 3 titles was ridiculous. 1 of my top 5 favourite surfers in my life. His first movie Fanning the Fire is still a great surf movie to watch

Didn't he also separate from his wife as well? He's certainly had his fair share of traumatic experiences in life. I've never heard him complain though, just gets on with it.

Tell you what, 'he' also brews a damn fine beer!

Yeah he did.

I'm going to miss him. Probably my fave.

The Australian numbers on the tour are thinning. Particularly those pushing for a title. Seems like a real downtime at the moment for the Aussies. Julian is probably the most realistic chance but doesn't seem to have the mongrel or something. Owen maybe could, but I think he needs it to be pumping at most stops. So much competition though. JJF, Gabe, Filipe, Jordy are all very hard to beat at the moment..

Another disappointing thing is Pipeline not being on the tour in 2019. What a **** show.

Dont forget Cronulla local Connor O'Leary rookie of year 2107 and finished 14th. He is a modern day Fanning / Parko a powerful surfer with big turns likes the big deep tubes.

Unfortunately I reckon we will see the WSL tour become a skateboad / snowboard event on water in a few year the way judging is heading to much emphasis on air tricks.

Yeah I really like the way he surfs. My type of surfer.

I agree. Especially with the wave pool coming.

Should be Australian of the year with that mullet and moustache.
How good watching his post win interview wearing his trademark akruba hat.

His look is amazing.

Finals day quiksilver pro - moved to kirra. Low scoring heats so far.

They seem to be scoring things a lot lower this year- which is probably a good thing. A few times last year they got stuck up in the nines with no room to move when waves were way better than ones previously surfed.

Yesterday day at Kirra was pretty cool to watch. Wilson with the win. Well done with a busted shoulder. They were saying he was having trouble duck diving. Even with the Jet ski that's pretty hard going.
