Although a Cronulla junior, Rogers first played first grade while living on the Gold Coast. The Sharks had always kept tabs on his progress since he went north with his family and made doubly sure he joined them when they believed the time was right.
In 1973 at the age of 18, he made the representative selectors sit up and take notice with some great performances both as a sparkling player and competent goal-kicker.
Following the grand final it was only natural that his was one of the first names read out for the Kangaroo tour.
