I looked through to see if we had any specific threads on Origin this year but I couldn't find one.

I know it is early, Game One is not until the 8th of June so still around 8 weeks away.

We are playing well but I'm not too sure we have all that many Sharks players in the mix.

But of the Sharks players who do you think is in Freddie's scope?

For me, there are only a few of them in reasonable consideration. Last year we had no representation at all with Dale and Nicho featuring only in Game 3 when they were still with the Storm. And Nicho was only a reserve, he didn't get on to the park at all.

Both players I think would be in consideration for this year's series but I think only Finucane is in with a real chance.

People are talking up Ramien but I don't think he'll be there. Only other player I can think of that they might consider would be Brailey but only a few injuries would see him come into the mix.

Even if our form continues and we have players playing well, I just don't see us supplying that many players to the series.

What is everyone else's thoughts?

Only players who will be a chance to be in the squad will be our 3 signings for this year IMO.

Yes Chad. VERY VERY early. 😉

Dale would be “most probable”.
Nicho will make the squad and an outside chance of playing. Most likely 18th man thou.
Brailey will likely be in the extended squad and might attend camp, but won’t play
Ramien has been mentioned by outsiders but as per the article I posted in the Ramien thread, Freddy hasn’t mentioned him.
Can’t see anyone else being in the frame at all.

I realised I didn't mention Cam McInnes but I don't think he is on the radar as yet - might change when we get closer to the squad being picked.
But even though we can see how good he is doing for us, I don't think he is on Freddie's or the media's radar yet.

Happy for us to miss out on Sharks representation in Origin this year. I think we'll find a few more missing next year though.

It'll be interesting to see who slots in if Nicho does miss any game for us. You'd think it'd have to be Trindall, but the door looks at least a little open for a few bolters to get a shot

Nicho realistically could be a chance to make the 14 jersey for a fully fit side.
They'd need to know who their second choice hooker was but other than that he provides great cover and now has experience as a targeted defender too. He'd be fighting off Walker and Wighton for this jersey I assume. Maybe even Burton if he isn't centre.

Finucane will depend which other props are available. ie how much work and how much leadership they need from his jersey.

If they had middles like Jurbo, Haas, Yeo, Murray, Paulo all available Dale may miss out to someone like a Siafiti. If someone like Yeo or Jurbo was out Dale would have to be way up the pecking order to replace. If Paulo was unavailable they might look for another bigger fella.

Ramien a very outside chance only if they need a right centre (turbo side was it?) and keeps his brain switched on and Crichton, Staggs (and maybe Wighton) form all not good enough. Realistically he's a long way down the list I think.

Ronaldo probably unlikely for Queensland.

As great as individual honours are happy for our guys to stay in NRL unless Hynes was starting, and at this stage Freddy probably starts Cleary or Moses and Luai or Wighton/Walker over him - maybe even Burton for 6.
Finucane has been there done that enough he won't really get much out of it.

trindall or metcalf would be our only options really.

Wouldn't Miller be an option? Played halves for Jets on weekend just gone, Fitz seems to like him (he signed him afterall).
Has been to the Olympics in a completely unrelated sport with absolutely no transferable skills or atmosphere to an NRL games though so always the risk he gets confused and starts trying to swim or something (am I understanding that argument correctly?)

They are dopes to skip over a hard working consistent forward like Dale who makes his tackles which means there is a good chance they do just that to go with a hype player that will have far less output - All the better for the Sharkies though and any other players that miss out and feel the need to prove the selectors wrong in our colours

Is it just me or is there less hype and talk around Origin during the Covid era ? Not that I am complaining but there would usually be 100 articles about it months in advance and commentators bringing it up relentlessly

Maybe it's less marketable when NSW are winning ?

No, I think you're right Gards. Might be like the SF forum... things settle down a bit when you're getting a few wins

Are the SOO governed by a board? Surely someone should be sacked by the lack of coverage.

There's still good early NRL content at the moment, expect SOO will start to pick up soon.

A bit of SOO chatter on 100% footy re Latrell being injured. Had Cam Smith on so good banter between him and Gal.

Finucane the only one for me.

Plenty of competition for Nicho in the 14 jumper (Wighton, Api, Papy), so I'd think he won't be there. Brailey behind Cook and Api so can't see him playing. Latrell going down mean they'll look for a left centre, so I doubt Ramien even gets a mention.

Avoiding Channel 9 has probably reduced my exposure by 50% alone but I think because we already have a winning team and arn't trying to break the duck so to speak there's less to debate and create controversy over

Like we don't have to argue about picking Mitchell Pearce for example anymore or worry about shutting down the big 4

unless they move tommy t to the left then ramien could be in for a chance for that right centre spot.

Freddie will probably throw Gutho in there... keep his quota of fullbacks in the team.

I think the side will look almost identical to last year so probably Wighton or Pap on the bench ahead of Hynes, Freddy has his favourites. Finucane probably the only realistic chance IMO.

Heres what I think he’ll go with as far the backs and utility goes:

1. Tedesco
2. To’o
3. Wighton (replacing the injured Mitchell)
4. Trbojevic
5. Addo-Carr
6. Luai
7. Cleary

14. Papenhuyzen/Gutherson (replacing Wighton)

No room for Hynes imo.
