Yeah Brandy has mentioned speed and energy needed and mentioned Paps in his next sentence so he is on the radar I reckon ..

With the fatigue that was in game 1, if you had thrown Paps out there for one of the forwards, he would have had plenty of opportunities.

Lot of 'player or other player' in my thoughts at the moment

1 Teddy
2 To'o
3 Wighton
4 Staggs/Crichton/Mitchell (form and availability to decide)
5 Tupou
6 Luai (although I do wonder if Hynes might take the pressure off Cleary more as a more 'balanced' pairing)
7 Cleary
8 Haas
9 Cook
10 Paulo
11 A Crichton
12 Murray
13 Yeo

14 Crichton/Hynes/Paps/Api/Robson
15 RCG
16 Friz/Martin/Sims/Matto
17 Kolo/Friz

18 Hynes/Paps/Api

S Crichton at 14 I don't care for it but Fittler obviously wanted it for some reason.
Left Api as a bench option but he got in trouble last time so maybe Robson more likely if they wanted a bench hooker and he's also bigger so could do a short stint at 13 if needed.

I gave Sims a chance to be on bench still same reason as S Crichton, Freddie really wanted him - he's in the 'playing mobile prop' slot.
I could see one of these guys also bumping RCG. Personally I'm thinking Friz and Kolo as 16 17.
I think Friz would be doing himself a big favour to clearly outplay Martin this weekend.

Thoughts? Have a forgotten anyone?

Qld if Coates is out I guess you just go C.oates and run it back?

Edit: forgot Matto so edited him in. Also forgot some Qlders but won’t change that as has been discussed.

It might actually help not to have the Penrith halves pairing. Jerome played his club role for the most part when we really needed his x-factor and the ball in his hands more, especially in the second half. Maybe Nicho would demand more of the ball and get out of that Panthers structure.

I’d be tempted to keep Val on the wing and bring in a centre (no idea who though). Val’s a decent centre but can be a game-changer on the wing.

I don't think NSW would even contemplate changing one of our halves - unless maybe we get flogged in game 2.

Really missed a player / game plan that worried QLD. Like mentioned above our team just played standard structure plays. Don't know if Latrell will be ready by next game but that's the type of player we need.

Agree but I couldn't think of a centre who stood out to me, whereas Coates was probably 'unlucky' not to be there in the first place.

I don't think they will until G3 either but they should very very seriously contemplate it unless they can come up with a much better plan to keep pressure off Cleary. Going after Cleary was a tactic Qld have admitted to focusing on.

Luai needs to step up or get out completely.
I do think he played well enough to not be dropped for quality but his contribution just wasn't what the team needed, like you say it was the style that works for Penrith (where he works great with Kikau).

Can't remember if I have said it in here or not but if I was to swap any two players to most turn around the results of the game it is Munster and Luai.
(I'd swap Teddy and Ponga if I wanted to most **** NSW over haha)

Given they were on the squad you’d have to think they have their noses in front of Oates.
I forgot Tuilagi, I’d probably go him actually - is he left side and Xavier was playing left side or am I getting one of them wrong?
Think Oates is comparable but as you say, not in game 1 squad

Hammer to centre can work also I guess if they want Val at wing but Hammer doesn’t really even have a spot locked down in Cowboys so I’d probably look at the guy who does.

Other than fixing that one spot though (maybe with it without Val shifting) looks like a run it back job for the rest

Sorry CM I’ve edited my post.
Realised I forgot Matto. No big change, I think he’s competing for same jersey as Friz/Martin/Sims anyway

Yeah - Tuilangi plays left wing for the Cowboys next to Val, and Coates was playing left so it’s an easy transition. I’d still consider HFT at centre though.

HFT hasn’t done anything wrong this year. The Cowboys just realised when he was injured that they can’t leave Drinkwater out.

Yeah I get that, just think taking a left winger with consistent good form there for left wing is the move I'd go over the dude who has been bumped around a bit for a position that he's been in and out of.

Agree move more Drinkwater was too good to move rather than Hammer got dropped

Fair call. They did go HFT centre / Val wing for last year’s game 3, and HFT went well. That was before Val’s permanent move to centre though - and a different coach.
