Star NRL siblings set their hopes high

BROTHERS captain-coach Blake Dunn has declared his interest in playing for the Group Nine Indigenous representative team in the highly anticipated clash with the Group Nine All-Stars.

Dunn yesterday revealed he and his sibling, former Toyota Cup star Brock Dunn, would relish the chance to play for the indigenous team at Equex Centre on April 24.

"Yeah I would definitely want to play if I get picked," Dunn said.

"Brock would be keen to play if he got picked too.

"Nothing is ever set in concrete but I would like to play.

"Being of Aboriginal descent, I think it is very important to represent our people."

Dunn said gaining a place in the team would hold special significance as it would be the first time he has been chosen to play representative football for an all-indigenous selection.

The inclusion of the Dunn brothers would be an important injection of skill and creativity in the absence of playmaker, former NRL star Joe Williams.

Williams, who played for Lavington last year, was an attacking whirlwind for the indigenous team, but the Group Nine All-Stars still pulled off a heart-stopping 36-34 victory.

The bitter taste of the loss has not been forgotten by the indigenous team in the countdown to second edition of the blockbuster game.

Indigenous team captain-coach Matt Rose yesterday said revenge would be a key ingredient in his strategy for the upcoming clash at Equex Centre on April 24.

Rose is still smarting after the Indigenous team was edged out by the Group Nine All-Stars in the inaugural duel.

"We had it won three or four times," Rose lamented yesterday.

"We didn't get over the line.

"We're desperate to win to square the account.

"I can't wait."

Rose said the Indigenous team would be selected in mid-March and was likely to be based around last year's squad.

"It'll be picked after the West Wyalong Knockout and a few other trials," Rose said.

"That means there'll be time for three or four weeks of training together.

"We're confident of getting a strong team in place."

Rose produced a command performance in last year's inaugural game and is excited about getting a second chance.

He is also chuffed the NRL jumped on an idea instigated in the Riverina.

"I was on the Gold Coast for the NRL Indigenous game on Saturday night," Rose said.

"It was great that the NRL used a similar concept.

"I think we can build on the success of that (NRL) game and also on how well the Group Nine game was received last year."

Predictions are flying of a $10,000 gate at Equex Centre on April 24.
