Below is a list of all the venues that will host an NRL match/preseason challenge match in 2026 (according to Grok – I think it might have missed Campbelltown and Leichardt). For the people who aren’t keen on Ocean Protect Stadium as a name, which of these would you say is a really good Stadium name and why? For me none of them are either good or bad, they are just corporations or locations.

4 Pines Park, AAMI Park, Accor Stadium, Allegiant Stadium, Allianz Stadium, Belmore Sportsground, Cbus Super Stadium, CommBank Stadium, Glen Willow Stadium, GIO Stadium, Go Media Stadium, Henson Park, Industree Group Stadium, Kayo Stadium, McDonald Jones Stadium, Optus Stadium, Polyec Stadium, Queensland Country Bank Stadium, Suncorp Stadium, TIO Stadium, WIN Jubilee Oval
Yeah I really don't get the bagging, it's a great fit for our club.

They are all fine and I probably like our theme tie in more than them... the only real bad ones are when it is a gambling company, but as a former fan of Pointsbet Stadium, I understand sometimes you have to take the money you can get

Personally, I'd prefer Accor, AAMI, Allegiant, Allianz, Commbank, GIO, Optus, or Suncorp. But only because mega brands = mega dollars.

As far as fitting in with our brand, we couldn't have done better unless Shark Energy went through a revival.

Id actually be very interested to see how much We make off stadium sponsorships conpared to the nrl teams that play out of these stadiums.

We don't have to share/split the revenue with a stadium operator, the government or other teams like them

Just as an example I used to work for the company that held the previous naming rights for qudos bank arena. This was about 12 years ago so adjust it a bit but it was around $2.5 million a year for that back then. Getting a mill for our ground is insanely good work.

No one seems to have disliked the name because it wasn’t a big enough brand though and there was no concern over how much money we were getting. That I could completely understand.

Someone mentioned that the name wasn’t “sexy” for a stadium name. Just wondering which of those other ones are and why.

They don't pay more because of the size of their brand though, they pay more because of the size and draw of the stadium.

They wouldn't pay us double just because they are bigger.
Most if not all of those venues run a lot more there than we do. Up to us to make ourselves twice as attractive.

Yeah I can't imagine clubs of those grounds see any of it. They are sponsoring the ground, not the team. It just so happens to be both for us.

Yeah I completely agree, I don't know why people have an issue with the name.

True, but if those big brands are interested we've likely got more negotiating power to get the best deal. And we probably don't go close to a year without a naming sponsor.

To me though that is purely a reflection of our status, it doesn't make the Stadium name better. We are just generally better and have a higher paying sponsor as a result.

If, in current circumstances, Optus were keen for Optus Park @ 800k but Ocean Protect offered a million Optus isn't (IMO) a better or more preferable branding.

If you google Jubilee Stadium, you you will see that Georges River Council have an expression of interest out for a new sponsor.

Looking further, it states that the Dargons don't directly receive anything, they just reap the benefits from the upgrades to the ground from the sponsorship money.

Unless its a long term partner, like most other stadiums have. Ocean protect won't renew past this new deal and we will have another stadium in a few years.

Plus it will get called ocean gate stadium everytime we five up a lead and implode.

They won’t be able to afford to sponsor us by the time this deal expires

I still call Bruce Stadium, Bruce Stadium.

I also call Centrepoint Tower, Centrepoint Tower

Take it or lose it, people don't come knocking twice, ask Netball Australia about that.

They might pay more to secure it over another brand, though, which a bigger brand could do.
Wouldn't have minded a healthy bidding war between Pepsi and Coke like in the old days!

Or they might not
Doesn’t make it a better stadium name necessarily
