Ryan McGowen also joining apparently. So from what I can gather, the team looks like this. (Formation 4-2-3-1 or 4-2-1-3)

GK: Redmayne (been linked with a move to England but that has gone quiet, Sydney have a contingency plan if he goes involving Jamie Young)
RB: Grant (Signed a new deal, even though he’s a Socceroo regular, there’s no talk of him going overseas yet)
LB: Zullo (Had a down year, is being backed to bounce back, if he doesn’t, Sydney have high hopes for Joel King to step in)
CB: Wilkinson (Likely to be the new captain, also extremely likely to be his last season with Ben Warland being groomed to take his place)
CB: R.McGowen (He has played alongside Wilkinson in defence for the Socceroos, will likely be first choice cover for RB as well)
DM: O’Neill (Sydney are planning for him to still be there for the upcoming season, doesn’t look like any bids have been made for him by those English clubs, but the window is still young, if he leaves, Retre will probably be the man to step up)
DM: ??? (Brillante has left, Sydney are looking for a replacement and have a number of options on the radar. There’s every chance it could be a one year loan deal as Corica is a big fan of Zuvela and sees him as the long term option for the spot. An Asian would be ideal. Luke Bratten has also been mentioned but he looks to be going overseas)
AM: Baumjohann (Will be the primary playmaker sitting behind the three attackers. Regarded as one of, if not, the best passer the league has seen. Question makes over his work rate linger though but don’t forget the rabble he was playing for last year, should go to another level in an actual good team)
LW: Ninkovic (No longer a marquee and no longer a visa player. Had a slight downturn in form last season, especially in front of goal but was still near the top of the Johnny Warren medal count, still one of the best players in the league)
RW: Barbarouses (Should be more of a second striker really, proven quality for a long time in this league and could easily go to another level with Baumjohann feeding him and Ninko/Alf helping him out)
ST: LaFondre (Not a marquee but had a marquee year. Not your usual prototype for a target man due to his lack of size but more then makes up for it with his rather large nose for goal)

Backup goalie: Tom Howard-Belle (Cisak is gone, so Sydney have given this young lad the chance to step up, actually beat Cisak to the bench spot a few times last season)

Defence depth is a threadbare after the surprise departure of Tratt. Wilko, Warland and young Patrick Scibilio are all that’s left from the defenders that were in the senior squad last year. Calver, Tratt, Van Der Linden and McGing are all gone. So there will definitely be at the very least one or two more defenders signed to the squad to go with McGowen, even more so consider long they had initially planned with having Tratt next year.

Defensive/Centre Midfield depth is looking only slightly better with Caceras and Brillante both gone. Chris Zuvela was looking very promising before he suffered that serious injury, I’m not sure what he’s contract status is but I think Corica is a big fan of him, so there’s every chance he’ll stay. They’ve offered Devlin a new deal, but no indication if he stays. Retre is probably the primary backup at the moment. The pick of the youth league midfielders seem to be Jerry Skotadis and Ryan Teague. Not sure if they’re sticking around, it’s likely at least Skotadis is. Reinforcements definitely needed.

Attack depth is looking rock solid with Trent Buhagiar and Luke Ivanovic to see plenty of game time this year. Buhagiar was far and away the most inform player during the FFA Cup and the pre season games before he got that serious injury before the league started. Was set for a breakout year. Luke Ivanovic broke into the team last year and showed a mountain of potential. Fast and tall, big things predicted of him, he can play wing and 9 as well which is handy. It’s unknown if Mitch Austin has been retained but it’s unlikely. They’ll probably look at a cheapish depth option to add to the already solid depth

probably a change of scenery and a team that knows how to win will do him the world of good

True. I think he was all set to go to WS as an overseas move wasn’t eventuating. Then Brillante left......
