Official Signings, Transfers & Recruitment Discussion

Paps on a 1-2 year contract would be great, but sounds like he’s genuinely taking a break next season. Good on him - better than playing on and collecting a paycheck when your heart’s not in it.
I did see just today he is linked to our club and the stains??? somewhere on FB

I’m sure it’s more a they get first dibs situation. If they don’t want him back then he should be free to sign elsewhere.
Think it is a bit more than that. If anyone else wants him it will come with a transfer fee. Between that and whatever the NRL decide is his minimum going rate it could price him out for a lot of clubs.

As for him being a “tool” for wanting out of St George, to his credit he did not phone it in despite clearly wanting out. Even taking less money to leave.

We would be the most attractive club for paps; but dependant if Storm want him back and / or NRL places the proviso of the same contract amount he was on at Storm
I believe he and the Storm are done. They’ve moved on. NRL will definitely set a reserve price – you won’t be picking up Paps for $300,000 or something like that.

They were happy enough for Hunt to sign with Brisbane for half his contract. So maybe not 300k, but you might be able to get a year for 500ish if he's looking for a bears move.

Hunt is 8 years older than Paps, maybe something to do with it but who knows.
I think returning to Brisbane was also a big thing for him and his family. But who knows what the NRL take into consideration when deciding those things.

If every Sydney club that rings his manager gets told “sorry mate he wants to move back to Brisbane” they aren’t going to bother any further. So if the only offer on the table is Brisbane for $500,000, what can the NRL really do but allow it?

They can tell Brisbane sorry the system all clubs operate off has him valued at 600k and up - make space if you want him

So Ben Hunt has to retire because no one will pay him what the NRL has valued him at although he is willing to accept less? Don’t be ridiculous.
